I know it may not make people happy but I truly think Hortiz is playing the comp pick game. Right now, he has the Oweh pick as a 3rd. That is a good pickOriginally posted by Steve View Post
Last year, prior to trading for Oweh, we proved we needed at least a 3rd edge in the rotation. So, unless they are confident in Kennard's immediate development, I would expect to see at least 1 more edge.
In the past, the Ravens D has gotten away with fewer guys, but when they have used a DL as an edge rusher on early downs, then slide them in. Oboigbe could be used in that role. But even then, even if Oboigbe can contain a QB as a wide 5 kind of guy, and get some pressure on the QB (not necessarily sacks, just pressure), we are still going to be forced to play Tuli on the edge on pass rush downs, and we don't have a Nascar package with a DE lined up inside, which was very effective last year and in previous seasons.
Even if Kennard plays well, it wouldn't surprise me to get another edge. The draft is a good way, but we are going to still need to go after IOL, and while a lot of rookies are effective, it is not unusual for rookie edge players to be slow out of the gate or take a year or two to develop.
Run down guys who can get some pressure, but are not really ideal edge guys for passing downs. But they can help keep the best guys fresh for when it matter most. Not ideal, but it can work.
A.J. Epenesa
Arnold Ebiketie
Mike Danna
A better list for some older players. None of these guys is that effective in their own right, but as part of a rotation they can be effective.
Derek Barnett
Jadeveon Clowney
Cam Jordan
Bosa
Von Miller
Josh Uche
Samson Ebukam - not very effective last year, but just coming off a torn Achillies
Dante Fowler
Mathew Judon
If Salyer or Hand sign - he could possibly get a 4 or 5 for Zion since Strange or Kolar could be crossed off. Or, he could sign than sign a player of like value and keep the Oweh 3rd rounder. I really think he wants to keep that Oweh third rounder
So of your names above - Danna was released. Ebikete is interesting
I think Bosa, Miller and Uche are done
Clowney and Cam Jordan are two names I like in that one year, under $10m range, better than Dupree but Hortiz will still need Edge in R1 or R2. He might be waiting for May 1 - the best of the rest -- because that is when the comp pick formula doesn't matter

Don't forget the Titans for some reason. And I partially get it - you know the players. But you are also right, there are other good players out there!Originally posted by jamrock View Post
I like Keaton as a compliment to Hampton. Lesser versions of Sonic and knuckles.
Just weird that we keep signing ex Ravens and Dolphins. Guys, there are 30 other teams
Though I do like the Kolar, Ingold and Mitchell signings
Strange is tbd.

And if you're going to swing and miss in free agency, I'd rather it be in the trenches vs overpaying at diva positions like WR, safety, etc. Especially after a 2 year stretch where your QB was broken in half.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
That is the puzzler. If there was ever a year to be a little more involved in free agency I thought this was it...with some glaring needs and few draft picks.
Generally I don't mind the Hortiz way of doing things but there are circumstances to be a little flexible.ESPN Screename: GoBolts02
