It will cost us about $13 million to sign rookie draft picks. It will cost us another $5 million to sign a practice squad... and another $12 million for in-season free agent signings (due to injuries). About $30 million total.
OTC has us @$62 million under the cap... but they haven't accounted for Josh Harris, De'Shawn Phillips, Dalvin Tomlinson, and Keaton Mitchell yet. I'm sure they will backload Tomlinson and Mitchell a bit. Even then, it's ************ to say that those 4 will count $12 million more against the cap.
That leaves us $18-20 million more to spend... enough to sign a decent-priced free agent after draft cuts.
We only have 5 picks and all lower end of the rounds. Id guess 13 mil is a high estimate for the draft picks.
I’m not arguing that he outplayed them. I am just wondering if that contract amount is actually right. If I was Salyer and all the playing experience he had, I would not have settled for $1.4 mil.
Broncos got Waddle - cost them a 1/3
AJ Brown cannot be traded until post June 1 for all practical purposes from a cap wise for the Eagles
If the Chargers can use 2027 draft picks for the trade, say they do get that 4th for Oweh and can get another for QJ either for 2026 or 2027
Trading for AJ Brown post June 1 - might just work. They have the cap space as they really haven't done much!
Chargers' receiving group: Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, Oronde Gadsden, Tre' Harris, Charlie Kolar, KeAndre Lambert-Smith. If one or two or all the 2nd year players, OG, TH, KLS, take a step forward, this unit may be good enough without the need to add a veteran WR. Dalevon Campbell is the wild card - remember in the preseason last year he looked like a men among boys. He is 6-4/220 lbs and was clocked at 4.42 at his South Carolina pro day last year.
I saw on Bolt Beat the Salyer got $1.4 mil. I can’t find it anywhere else that he got that. It’s not on Spotrac or OvertheCap. Alex Insdorf is the only one reporting it. That also seems ridiculously low for a player with as many starts as he has and that is competing for a starting job. I have a hard time believing he is making less than a 2025 2nd round pick and a 2024 2nd round pick.
First it was our coaches but now the whole league is disrespecting Salyer? It’s not collusion, had the chargers not drafted him he might’ve gone undrafted…Georgia’s coach literally lobbied Telesco to draft him…
it’s not incompetence or disrespect, it’s about the knees, it’s about not being able to run sweeps and screens with Salyer, he limits what you can do offensively from a play calling POV and he can’t play guard lack of short area explosion…
it’s a lot more common for teams to overpay for a young player in his first free agency than what is happening with Salyer this offseason, I honestly didn’t think he would get signed until teams started filling out practice squads where his experience might have more value…
he’s an overweight player with a maxed out low ceiling that can help you when injuries hit but also at the cost of making your play calling more predictable…

I'm unhappy with the minimal priority management has placed on the offensive line. I fear for Herbie's health for yet another year. Very disappointing.

It’s not about settling if you’re desperate to prolong your career…there is zero guarantee that he’ll make that roster so he might not see the money anyway…my guess they gave him a small signing bonus maybe 130k if he doesn’t make the roster they don’t have to guarantee the rest and they can add him to their practice squad for 420k for the rest of the season and they’ll have a very flawed but experienced player for emergencies at OT
