so how come Mexico gets to have the name? Anyone measure the shore front miles of Mexico vs US? The whole thing is silly in every direction, its hard for me to take anyone serious who feigns to be insulted on either side. America is a fantastic name - folks can all learn that America is the name of the entire western hemisphere and not just USA.

Then Baja (Sea of Cortez) can be the Gulf of Mexico, its fully contained by Mexico and Cortez was rapacious and genocidal (allegedly). It’s ironically often called the gulf of California, and CA doesn’t touch it. Well, modern CA, we don’t need to get started there either lol.

ESPN article about players who could be traded -- they mention Ramsey as the Chargers can take the cap hit - but I prefer Hendrickson though the draft pick is much higher. But for a pick swap and taking on his contract - could be worse. Chargers have a lot of cap space next year, Mack and Dupree off the books -- Hendrickson I think would do more for the defense than Ramsey.

• Chargers get: Ramsey, 2027 sixth-round pick

Why this deal makes sense for both sides: The Chargers don't need Ramsey, but they have something some other teams don't: the cap room to absorb all of Ramsey's guarantees. The Chargers have a little less than $32 million in 2025 cap space but more than $118 million in 2026 cap space (the most in the NFL, per Roster Management System).

Ramsey, who would probably push free agent signing Donte Jackson into a backup role, would raise the defensive ceiling for a team that could easily become a true contender.

lol, you guys are dropping great stories, reminds me of growing up here. When I was 17, I bought my first 4x4 and we used to off road everywhere - Tierresanta, Miramar, Otay, Baja, Ocotillo, Glamis, etc. Every time it rained in San Diego, I'd get at least 1 person in his 4x4 to pay me to pull them out of something stupid they got into.

your story here reminds me of my 5 years in Michigan and the annual return in March or early April of goofs who drove cars out onto frozen lakes, cracked thru the thinning ice and sank them to the bottom. MI (and other States) passed a law requiring your info in big letters on the side of your ice shanty because so many ice fisherman used to just leave them out on the ice to fall in and sink when it melted. DFG would pull them up later in spring and give people big fines.

I used to use my Dad's 78 Bronco to pull people out of the river in Rancho Santa Fe for cash.

We gave Mexico back to the Mexicans after scuffling over the border. Generals who fought on both sides in the Civil War crushed Mexico's troops and we graciously let them keep it before proceeding to fight each other.
I think concessions were made regards naming rights to salve their wounded egos.

Actually America is a great name, because Canada, the U.S. AND Mexico AND Central America are all considered part of "North America:"

Cortez deserves a chance to refute those insinuations and rumors, doesn't he? There are some people out there who contend he was a really nice guy who got a bad rap from people who were jealous of him. They were so mean to him!

I had a '74 that had a lot of Baja pre-runner stuff. Lift, roll cage, built C4 tranny, front and rear locking differentials, light bar on roof & I forget what all. Loved that truck.
The wife burned it up. I had been working on it and left some stuff lose. Told her NOT to drive it. She did and it caught fire under the hood. She pulled over and called FD who put it out after all wiring was fried and a lot of other stuff.
There was a fire extinguisher behind the driver's seat. That was a test of my relationship skills but I got over it. We had kids and she wanted a plastic pool for them that wouldn't fit in her car. The kids are 47 & 52 now, the wife is still my wife.

I think Ramsey is a bit more than "meh" but agree with you that Hendrickson would be a difference maker.

The Ramsey question is this -- is he worth the $16m in cap space or could you better spend that on say Edge and OG depth? My guess - yes -- would prefer OG and Edge depth

These stories trigger so many memories. Used to go down to Puerto Nuevo and Rosarita beach fairly regularly back in the high school days. Pretty sure kids in SD today can't enjoy that freedom of movement. Too bad. We also went RV'ing down to San Felipe a couple of times. The tide down there went out so far and you could clam, get buckets full and boil the up right there.

Back in the 70's the sand at Rosarita Beach was a bleached white. Never in my life had I seen beach sand that color anywhere, only there. Was a cool place to visit. If I remember right there was a small store by the beach that sold beer. Only problem with that was the Coronas had floaties in the bottle since they only had one brand of beer, but if you were that thirsty it really didn't matter. It was cold.

Historically, the "Gulf of America" is a terrible name. Why would anyone name it after an Italian explorer that inexplicably stumbled upon a "New World" that indigenous people had occupied some 15-20 thousand years earlier...?

Anyone who has read about Amerigo Vespucci knows that he was born into a rich family and was granted his positions in life based on who he was... rather than his capabilities. His records of his "discoveries" were sparse and often forgeries and/or fabrications. Ralph Waldo Emerson called him a "thief" and a "pickle dealer".

Upon further review... the "Gulf of America" seems like the perfect name.
