I think it would be stupid to have Smart over Parham. Smart is a mediocre blocker and offers to the receiving portion of TE what Stick brings to the passing aspect of QB.

I'd hate waiving Cam Hart, Eboigbe or JT Woods so they can go with 5 tight ends..... Smart is safe on the practice squad.

Oh man. If we can somehow end up with Texan RB Dameon Pierce, I'd be a happy camper.
I remember how hard he was to for our defense to defend against, his rookie year.
he had a down year in Bobby Slowick's zone scheme according to this article and if that's the issue, great, we'll be running primarily Man/Power/Gap.

I can see them cutting Hart, with the emergence of Still and Leonard, there is a small chance Hart lands on the practice squad with Hankins and Harper...

Eboigbe I'm having a harder time visualizing that cut, I know people have said he didn't show anything in the preseason but I saw some flashers here and there, he had a handful of good reps against Dallas, one where he flushed Lance out of the pocket from the interior after beating a double team, when they play him as a 3-4 DE he doesn't look as good...on a separate interior rush he had a nice spin move on the guard and almost sacked Lance on that one...he's got some length but he hasn't used it consistently this preseason, he also needs to improve his get off, these are the types of things that NFL coaching will help him correct in his game, I can't imagine the coaches giving up on him so soon...

Hortiz can’t cut too many of his draft picks or he’d look like he failed his first draft. Cutting last year’s picks however, that’s open season.

I see this too. The DL group is thinner in depth, Eb was a higher pick, the big guys are harder to find. He can spell a rep here or there without major defense risk. Hart just didn’t look pro ready quite yet and it’s harder to hide a DB who’s not up to the task. One series with Walton showed how quickly an unprepared DB can cause defensive catastrophe. I think Hart needs time on the PS and I feel fairly secure he’s not a poach target. If he is, thats just how 53’s work out - can’t keep everyone and gotta go with your best.

I saw Jefferson and Woods both outplaying Hart in PS games, if thats the tape we go by, that should be the call. Unless they saw something amazing in practice they didn’t see from those two. Woods has elite speed and now 3 yrs grooming, Jefferson is a savvy experienced vet who showed he can still run with the kids on a field. Both showed a lot of “want it” imo.

Won’t be long till we know now … I do expect a surprise or two I’m wrong on, I just don’t know which …

At first I scoffed at this notion...however...it might come down to guaranteed money some of these later round picks have coming...if its a close call, it may come down to financials...math involved, and my eyes are drooping, but...would we lose money, or save money, cutting these players and paying salaries to undrafted guys or street FAs, plus covering guaranteed money on cut draft picks?
