    Aztec Stadium

    And so it begins: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/...113-story.html

University of Houston's stadium is 40k, cost $128m, and is apparently what SDSU is looking for right now.

SDSU can apparently put up $100m. Wonder what the Bowl Games and/or an MSL team can put into the pot.
    Prediction:
    Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

I sit (sat) with a few engineers...now granted they have not seen the guts of the stadium, but they all think 500 million makes that a new place with great site lines, better heads and more luxary boxes.

Maybe put 500 mill into what we have and coax another NFL team in...

Coat of paint on the iconic outside and spend all the money upgrading everything inside.

We've heard reports in both sides that the bones are good and bad.

If we are talking remodel, it will take millions just to get rid of the LSC smell.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TDECU_Stadium So here's some info on Houston's stadium.

The plan included a new football stadium with an initial capacity of 40,000 seats with expandability to 60,000. At an estimated $128 million cost, Houston athletics also announced the start of a fundraising drive.

They built the foundation for a 60k stadium, so it could be expanded later.

I wonder if the seats at the Q could be re-used as well. They seem to be in pretty good shape.

Since the San Diego Chargers recently announced its intention to leave San Diego, the remaining Qualcomm Stadium site is ripe for a number of potential uses, including as a satellite campus for San Diego State. The Chargers announced on Jan. 12 they would be leaving San Diego for Stan Kroenke’s I

I've been to both stadiums. They're fine for what they are, but they aren't big league. Building something similar to SDSU is fine, but it's not going to host major bowls or anything else.

This city still needs a real stadium.

we're gonna have to wait until the Olympics are awarded to SD in the future. Then we'll get 2-3 brand new stadiums fully paid for with tax payer $ and NO possibility at all of ROI.

I don't think anybody has any illusions of building a stadium for a non-existent NFL team. They'll host the Holiday and Poinsetta Bowls. Not "major" bowls, but these are the bowls that are actually in San Diego.

And maybe SDSU (and partners) will pay for a new stadium so that it can actually be revenue positive for the university (and their partners). Imagine that.

                    SDSU AD making the rounds:

o Want 30-40k stadium, with as many events as possible to help pay for stadium.
o If awarded MLS team, then this happens pretty quickly.
o More revenue is now available from advertising, etc... now that Chargers are gone.
                    o Still looking at solutions.

o Looking at University of Houston as model. (see previous posts)
o Financing: Find a partner (MLS, or other), then fundraising, premium seating/ads that are now available
o Working with city to extend lease to 2020.
o MV is the ideal location
