Flags...Bias?

Like someone said, the refs are human and make mistakes. We have to live with that. It's not just the number od flags that bother me. I hate how long they take to review. I have plenty of time to twiddle my thumbs without these five-minute reviews. I wonder if it's fair to use super-slow motion to review? I'm nearing 80 years old and have been watching football since I was a teenager and I really don't think it's as much fun as it used to be.

That bothers me more than the flags.

One of the biggest areas of concerns is how the league tells the referees union what types of flags they want to emphasize on a week by week basis. I think it's very fair for the refs to be told obvious calls that they have missed based on previous games grading but telling them to emphasize certain calls opens up the opportunity for the league to put their thumbs on the scale.

Seeing yellow flags flying during chargers games always seem to trigger some strange negative emotion for me...this is why i want to ban yellow gloves and cleats.

So many calls seem so arbitrary it frustrates more than anything. Holding left and right, for things that doesn't appear to be much. And all those illegal formation penalties are dead annyoing too.

Been a fan since 1965, at 6 years old the parents bought me 35 yrd line with them, plaza level, visitors side, because at that age, i was hooked on the chargers and siblings "still" can careless.

Between the Refs and the Roger Goodall(sp) and all the commercials, the fun is just about GONE for me. II have watched about 15 min of NFL this year and have listened to the Chargers via the radio. SO tired of the announcers and their BS talk. I miss people like John Madden, now he could announce, same with ole Howard Cosell, shoot even Dan Fouts was a very good announcer. Not like todays talking heads who takes the fun out of watching and listening. NFL is not a sport, it's a business and will never be the same, just gets worse for us fans.

Last nights game between the Bills and Jets had OVER 204 yards in penalties assessed. 204. Some teams would be thrilled to have that much total offense in a game. This is the NFL.....National Flag League....No Fun League.

it was nationally televised so it was a game for the zebras to be seen by everyone. and boy were they seen!

Fans if they can should start writing to the NFL about crappy refs , tik tac calls that get called while blatant ones are missed. Id write Goodell if i knew a way to write to him. Its so ridiculous now.

There does seem to be too many flags but many of the penalties you cant take out of the game, but having said that, the last thing the game needed was this new penalty for illegal formation. This one really is a bit much, way too ticky tacky and it is negating some excitng offensive plays. The NFL needs less flags not more

However, you can't blame the refs. They are just enforcing the rules. It's the committee that came up with it and owners that voted for it that are the problem.

On the otherhand.... Chargers got nailed with that penalty a few times but not in the last game. They learned the rule and trained to not violate it.

Games have to be DVR'd so commercials can be skipped. Just too many of them.

So like the instant replay, we seem to forget how modern technology has improved watchability.

I agree. And I also hate all the overseas games. That is all just greed, too. Most of those fans have no idea what they are watching and just wear any NFL jersey they can buy. Waiting for the NFL to make games in Europe measured in metres (note cool British spelling) vs yards.

Another thing that bugs me about the NFL is the fake, superficial concern they show for battered women, drug abuse, criminal activity, player safety, racism. It all rings holllow when actions don’t match words. I think all these penalties for non-penalized, pretty normal NFL plays a week after the game are them pretending to care about safety and protecting themselves legally.
