My personal opinion is that Burrow isn't any better than Herbert. Burrow has had better receivers and better overall teams to play with. They are both great, young QB's. But, and call me biased, I'd still take Herbert over Burrow.
Burrow has had far better (and more consistent) coaching . . . . . . . . .
If you’re not in shootouts all the time and you’re running the ball and the clock and playing good D, you’re going to have a lower scoring game. I don’t think you can separate the O from the D, they’re all in it together.
Duh. Totally when it comes to W- L. Can we say one player or one group did a better job than another? Of course.
Herbert has excelled at no ints on the correct principal that sacks and 3 & outs are better than turnovers. That has played a role. Likewise his injured ankle.
The OL and auxiliary blockers are like a chorus line of dancing hippos. The have to be in sync. No small trick with reluctant dance partners.
It takes a lot of reps for them to move effectively with confidence and a nasty edge.Last week may have been their best game. Everybody on offense had to learn a new game. No frickin' turnovers, @ 50/50 run/ pass.
I think it's going well. 6-3 with a good chance of 10 or better Ws.
Watching NFL Live and the crew: Rutledge, Orlovsky, Kimes and Ryan Clark all picked the Bengals -
but the same crew also picked the Packers over the Bears - which makes sense. But both Kimes and Rutlege had the Bears scoring over 20 points. I mean, what offense have they been watching!!
and I usually like Kimes -- but the Bears scoring 24 points - no way
Chargers all the way Sunday!
I think they’re banking on the Bengals being a more desperate team.

Agree that them being desperate makes them dangerous but it's also a double edged sword if they, say, force the ball into double coverage instead of taking a check down. Think of all the 4th quarters with Rivers over the years where he had to try and hero ball our way to a win and wound up throwing critical ints.
Desperation can be a benefit if it motivates you come out dealing in the first quarter but if the defense can slow them down a few times the pressure will build.
omg this burrow-vs-herbert argument has become boring. yawn. someone please throw another vapid stat up on the board, hopefully it sticks like a wooden stake thru Dracula's heart.
I am aghast that folks are distracted to the point no one questions the stunning fact one of our very own came here to our inner Charger sanctum to announce he is starting Burrow in his fantasy team AGAINST THE LA CHARGERS. And he phrased it in the form of a question, as if he was seeking absolution from the TPB priesthood. And the Priesthood acquiesced and granted said absolution!!!
Good God, my people, what uncivilized pit of degenerate sin have we fallen into where a proper and good man no longer knows he should keep that shit a secret?
I find it interesting the comparisions between Burrow and Herbert. Everyone seems to say that Chargers are going to win, but Cinci has the better QB. Maybe, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
The rationalization seems to be that Burrow was the better player because he has won the games over the years. Of course since they were drafted, Cinci has had a running game (till this year), and better receiving corp, better D. They then point that Burrow is carrying the team and the QB alone isn't enough to win, but Burrow keeps them competitive so the games are close.
The Chargers have had (until this year) no running game, the D had it's moments, but wasn't good or consistent. The receiving corp had it's moments, but the last time Allen and Williams were healthy for a year was when Rivers was the QB. But Herbert put up great numbers, and kept the Chargers in games, and for the most part the Chargers were competitive, and kept the games close, and the chargers would just fall a few points short every game.
So, maybe looking at it that way, the QB doesn't matter that much. Yes, QB is the most important position, but you aren't going to win unless you have a good team with a good QB. Burrow gets a lot of credit for what his team did. Herbert is probably not going to have the super-impressive box score stats, but I think the Chargers are going to win, because they are the much better team compared to Cinci.
The other thing people keep telling me is how unbelievable Jamar Chase has been this year. He is on a record setting pace - all of which is true.
But of his 981 yards this season, 457 of those came against Baltimore (193 in the 1st game, 264 in the 2nd), which is almost half of his total. Half of his touchdowns (5 of 10). A third of his catches (21 of 66). All of it is especially relevant given that we play the same scheme as Balitmore. However ...
His only other big game this season (hundred yard) has been against Washington. 6 for 118 and 2 TD.
The other games, even the ones when Higgins has been on the field, he has been good, but teams have been able to stop him. He draws a lot of attention. I know a lot of people are really high on him and Burrow. But I think a lot of people are on the recency bias. Chase was unstoppable vs Baltimore, but we have been playing a lot better in our secondary than other teams. There are some good examples of what teams have done to stop him.
Chase is just about the best WR in football. He is a big test for us. But mostly if we can take him away, they still have good players, but he is the weapon for Burrows and the rest of their O is just a bunch of guys. Burrow makes them look pretty good, but we have some pretty good players too.
Yes, Nico IS back for this game. Dallas' D hasn't been strong. And now the Dallas O should be giving the ball back to Houston several times throughout the game.
Sigh...I really hate starting a player who is playing against the Chargers.

Oooh....now I'm intrigued. Which poster said they were starting Burrow against the Chargers? I keep reading through the posts but can't seem to find it. But I'm on the edge of my seat to find out! Let me know who!
