Bengals at Chargers Game Day Thread (Week 11) | Post Game Discussion

Bengals have really good WR's!! DB's were having a hard time with them. Chargers do NOT. McConkey is going to be real good. But he is not a wide big body type that is needed on teams. The rest are just average at best. Those that defend QJ need to realize he was a #1 pick and not a 4th round one. He is not impactful, cannot separate and his routes are to rounded. Yes, JH "slightly miss" but really good WR's find a way to come up with some of those. QJ never does. He also does not catch with his hands ( see Higgings of Bengals ). On deep ball receivers need to adjust and try and position themself in the optimum catching point AND to shield the DB from interfering. Randy Moss was the best I ever saw do this. He would have slowed up and timed his jump to catch the ball ( with his hands ) at the apex. QJ will never do this. He is just OK but not #1 round pick good. It was a busted pick.
Charger need more help on D, more OL help and mostly another really impactful WR.
Jim Harbaugh sometime looks ( just the looks because he does know his stuff )befuddled on the sidelines. Has anyone else ever notice this?

Again, it was out in front of him and he got his hands on it so how it could it have been that bad of a pass? Yes, it was slightly in front of him but you make it sound like he sailed it 20 ft away from QJ. I still say if he dove he has a chance to catch it.

I did not say it was 20 feet away from Johnston. Just because it hit his fingertips doesn't mean it was Johnston's fault. He reached out to grab it and it was still too far ahead of him. You're expecting too much out of Johnston and not holding Herbert accountable for a terrible pass.

Those deep passes to QJ in the second half felt forced. I guess they were trying to test the Bengals rookie CB.

Turner isnt a rookie, this is his second season. I wanted us to draft him in round 2 in 2023. He is a burner with his 4.26 forty and it showed on those coverages....one of Harbaughs Michigan players.

Ask the Broncos and the Bengals what it’s like to have to leave a game up to a winning field goal attempt. I’ll take the TD run with 18 clicks left on the board any day. And with how our D has played for the majority of this season, I’m sure Harbaugh would too. Some people man, I swear. Lol. Jk Kind of. 😜

It worked out but id have been good either way. I knew we were going to run that down but didnt expect a house call. Figured we would run three plays and get maybe 5 yards and kick it. I dont mind him going in for the TD. Forced Cinci to score a TD as well. This isnt Staleys defense anymore.

SFs defensive stats arent good this year....wonder what why?

Yea...I hate that...hit was clean, and wasnt late...these refs want 320 pound DTs to spin off the QB mid air, in a bang bang play lasting tenths of a second...but...by the rules, they had to call it I guess...

We got a couple roughing calls on Herb that could of gone either way imo so it evened out. This game wasnt awfully refed like some have been.

I think the TV director wants shots of the coaches being befuddled. There were more of them of Zac Taylor than Jim.

Man, hard to believe we are 7-3 in year one of what's pretty close to a complete and total rebuild. We are in playoff contention, and may even have a little gas to make some noise...

Trust me, I get it. I'm 50 years old and have been a fan since I was a little kid (5 years old). To boot, I'm a Denver native and have had all these fan's BS to deal with on top of being a Charger fan. Some very brutal and bleak years indeed. The hiring of Harbaugh has given me some hope for the first time in many years. We have been gifted a very good, extremely talented, young, selfless QB. We have some great pieces. Yes, we need a few more, clearly. But if you would've told me last year that today we would be 7-3 and in playoff contention, I would've laughed in your face. I understand being critical. I understand the pessimism at times, believe me. But man, this feels different. It feels like we may be on our way to something. Finally. I wish more people would be a little more optimistic right now.

To each their own. But I'm going to enjoy the ride. I'm getting too old for the doom and gloom.

He got finger tips on it. It was a bad pass and way in front of him. Herbert was off in the second half for whatever reason. Sure he has a chance to catch it maybe if he lays out but he did stretch out for it. In no way was that a drop though. Herb has to give the WRs a chance to catch the ball and make better throws.

The momentum shift in that game was crazy. Just night and day difference between the first 35 minutes and last 24 minutes. We had about 30 seconds of perfection at the end to win it. Ball on our own 16/18, 2 passes to Ladd and a Dobbins run and we're in the EZ. Astounding

You can not believe it, that doesn’t make it untrue.

Players who understand the game situation and give the opponent no chance to win and maximize your chance of winning are considered smart, whether you agree with it or not is irrelevant.

Dobbins got the touchdown, great. But he opened up a possibility for the bengals to score and go for two to win that they don’t have if you stop at the 1-5 yard line run the clock out and kick a ~20 yard field goal. Yes he can miss the field goal but the likelihood of that happening is about equal to the bengals scoring (I would say less but whatever) and the two point conversion is on the table where it isn’t for the blocked FG.

Its very very much the smarter football IQ play to go down by the goal line and kick the field goal giving the Bengals no chance to possess the ball and win.

All that being said it’s splitting hairs and I’m happy he scored and don’t really care. It’s a good problem to have. Cheers to a good win.

You want to take a 100 % chance of a score off the board with a TD versus a 90% chance of getting a field goal. Not good analytics in my book.
