Greg Roman OC Discussion, Part 2

Admin note, I closed the original Greg Roman Thread, no real reason to have 2. I can't merge them, as this one is a poll. - Bolt-O
    --
Hate to start up a thread like this after a win, but come on! Our offense was so anemic...it was our D that won this game for us. Here are my main complaints about Greg Roman:

    1. Herbie got sacked FIVE times, and by the Falcons, a team LAST in sacks in the league before this game. These were mostly coverage sacks. Herbie was holding onto the ball too long, because our wideouts weren't getting hardly any separation (except for Conk, who had a decent game). Palmer did get barely enough separation for Herbie to gun a laser to him for that TD. Aside from that and Conk, our wideout play was terrible. Roman can't keep on dialing up these uncreative plays and letting Herbie get hammered repeatedly, or we'll be back to him getting injured like last year.

    2. Roman needs to dial up some more creative pass patterns...maybe a crosser pattern for QJ (and hope he doesn't drop it again). And what about dialing up some screen plays? At the very least, send the RB into the flats for a hot route.

    3. Roman's ground game isn't going too good. And the run game is supposed to be his forté...okay, so we're missing Dobbins, but how about using Vidal more? He showed some promise on that first quarter run for a first down.

    4. Finally, play calling like the screenshot below are the kind that drive me nuts. It's 3rd and 9 and Roman sends QJ on a 5-yard out route...uh, we need NINE yards for a first down, dude! At LEAST send QJ 10 yards or so before he cuts to the outside...UNLESS QJ ran the wrong route...Wow, just...wow...

Yea this thread is poorly timed... All your doing is stirring the pot. A win is a win... 8-4 people, 8-4... calm down and breathe.

Playcalling like today's won't get us past the first game in the playoffs...unless we get real lucky...

Does anyone actually think that Harbaugh is going to fire his hand picked guy? Not happening.

How do you know that all the things you're complaining about aren't on Roman but Herbert changing the play or making decisions on the fly due to coverage? You can't. Again, we're 8-4. The offense needs to step up, nothing changes until that happens or they get replaced.

That play in the second half, when Herbert escaped pressure to his left, and threw incomplete to QJ 15 yards downfield...

someone needs to get their azz open.

Many catchable throws end up incomplete.

Harbaugh is a guy that understands the pulse of his team, Herbert doesn't look happy and that could make all the difference between whether Harbaugh decides to can Roman or not, his brother already did it in Baltimore so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if John gives him an "I told you so"

the defense is the only reason that this team is 8-4, PERIOD

We're 8-4 but Herbert doesn't "look" happy? The things ya'll come up with to dump on Roman is funny. Honestly though I wouldn't look happy either if none of my teammates could get open on a consistent basis.

This team IS NOT WINNING A PLAYOFF GAME. I'd say Pittsburg may be the only team we'd have any chance against. The offense is limited on talent and the play calling does it now favors. Herbert also has freaking blind allegiance to the called plays and the inept WRs. He needs to wake the F up and realize he has to be Oregon Herbert and make more plays with his legs. Stop standing there hopelessly waiting for someone to get open.

what about the run? it's supposed to be his area of expertise and he called 11 runs in the entire game, our biggest deficit was 7 points early but for the most part we had a lead or were only behind by 4, 1, and 4 points and a lot of the time we had a 2 or a 7 and later a 4 point lead and you only call 11 runs? I don't understand it...
