Roman's renewed emphasis on calling play action has proven helpful (slows the pass rush, brings in the LBs, keeps eyes of corners/safeties in the backfield).

First how the Chargers with Herbert are now more of a play action team
Second, less dinking and dunking like a west coast offense
Third, more passes down the field

Please baby Jesus let the Bengals win on Sat so the Chargers can improve their seeding against Loss Vegas on Sun and it will be a real game and not a glorified pre-season game.

If the Chargers do have something to play for, the key will be to curb stomp the Raiders into submission early. If the Chargers go up three scores in the 1st 20 min, like they did in Foxboro, the Raiders will lay down and take it.

The Patriots did that last weekend. The previous week the Bills let the Patriots stay in the game and it gave the Pats hope they might pull off an upset and it ended up being a close game. The Chargers killed early any incentive for the Pats to play hard, that's how the game ended up so one-sided. That Pats were mailing it in by half way through the 2ndQ.

Do the same in Vegas Sunday, Don't give the Raiders any hope, extinguish any aspiration they might have of winning as early as possible, make the game over in the 1st half. Then the starters can rest for the final quarter and a half.

Jefferson signed a 4yr $140M contract back in June. He's not going anywhere, their cap hit would be a crusher

younger people on here don't understand - we had a revolutionary passing attack and were a juggernaut on offense. everyone else ran the ball on first down, while Air Coryell threw it.

Wes Chandler was awesome, but i still miss JJ and his acrobatic catches (and the goggles).

what a team - l am a season ticket holder and i always tell my season ticket rep that i want to see a Coryell/Fouts throwback jersey for a game.

agree! some of those high leaping catches with one or 2 finders or catching a pass between a defenders legs have never been equalled.... maybe best hands in history....

and when teams sacked Fouts, they would dog pile on him and slug him, etc.... like raiders did and were rarely penalized ....got Fouts the reputation and nickname: "Old blood and guts!"... he played with broken nose and a blood covered jersey.... todays players would have been taken out of the game....

Coryell wanted Elway as Fout's eventual replacement and saved up 3 first round picks to use, but Chargers could not make the deal work......sadest part is we could have taken Marino with our 2nd 1st round pick and Marino was basically a younger Fouts with an even stronger arm and even quicker release....... missed opportunities.... lol

JJ is fantastic. 2026 and on Cap hits boggle the senses though. $39M, $43M, $48M. The last two are not guaranteed so per usual NFL mode - unlikely. Exhibit 1 for why a great WR is a great draft pick in Rd1.

McCarthy is cheap-ish for awhile, as far as QBs go anyway.

Fouts benefited greatly from the most innovative update to the NFL Passing game in 30+ years. MFIC - he led that team like a boss. People forget he had as many horrible seasons on those horrible Charger teams before Air Coryell. Just glance at his stats his first 4 years, they are quite bad, the teams were worse.

But the genius of Coryell's timing route designs allowed Dan to overcome his very average arm with superior quick decisions and timing synchronization with his receivers to become a HOF QB. Took defenses years to catch up.
