Film Study: The Good, The Bad and The Great (week 17 vs Patriots)

Welcome back Diehards and Happy New Year from Down Under. This week was special, very special. We got to see Chargers blowout a team they were supposed to blowout. They played almost mistake free football, so much that it was difficult to pick a bad play. GRo dazzled us with some exotic formations i havent seen before which had me scrambling around the net trying to find the name of them. Hope I got them correct. Lemme know if I am wrong please.

man I cannot wait for next weeks game
    as always
    luv ya

I was wondering if we really changed things up, or everything just happened to work against the Pats. that is very encouraging if we were trying out new stuff.

plus, the pass protection was crazy. I am wondering if Salyer and/or Dobbins made a difference.

nice work as always NMC, and happy new year!

These are the sort of changes I know I’ve been waiting to see. Our IOL is a weakness run two fullbacks to help mitigate it. Oh you have two fullbacks now pass, oh now we’re in a normal formation, run.

It’s understanding your team composition and building plays to mitigate your weaknesses and maximize your strengths while throwing your opponent off balance. I’ve never seen this from Roman so I’m guessing there is a heavy dose of Trestman in there. Trestman and Roman working together on this seems to be working out. Hopefully they can tweak it vs the Raiders and then have it ready come playoffs.

Great job...Conk is "elite" is right: The way he changes direction and gets such great separation is just off the charts:

Hopefully GRob keeps it up in the playoffs.

I didn’t get a chance to analyze the game but someone mentioned that he started using more quick passing plays in this game. Which is great since I’ve been wanting him to break away from relying on solely the big vertical plays that require a long time to set up and isn’t the best use for guys like Palmer or QJ. Just weird to use it against a defense that didn’t require a quick passing game to beat the pass rush. But better late than never as they say 😅

Maybe something we can utilize more in the playoffs against Baltimore and Chiefs?
