Just cut him a $27.5M check after the season? does the mind go there too?

how about they take the entire team cap of $230M or whatever it is. Sure, they have signed contracts with each player that adds up to $230M. But at the end of the season they evaluate each players performance and contribution, rip up those other contracts, and pay all players based on what they did that last year?

I really don't know why you guys go places like this ...
Because there's 2 sides to every story. You tend to look at things from an employee's POV, whereas I look at things from a management POV.

I know that it's unrealistic and will never happen, but is it fair for a player to make a choice which hurts his team, but then expect that team to happily pay him his full slotted amount when his own choices have limited his production?

And you know very well that if he performs at a pro bowl level he's going to be paid most handsomely for it with his next contract - see Wilsons new deal

49ers had Brock Purdy for three years pretty cheap - well forget first year but years 2 and 3
granted by the rule of the contract they could not re-do his deal until this year

So to your point, even if Harris had the best WR year ever - he could not get a new contract

Like you wrote earlier - this is a fight between the owners and NFLPA and because Harris was picked by the Chargers -its the story
I am not going to blame Harris
      The NFLPA has its side
      the owners has its side

I say just guarantee the fourth year and whatever -- I know it sets a precedent but life evolves

and if he gets hurt midway through season 3 and they release him going into his 4th season....
this is what the players are trying to get - more guarantees. I think the current 4th year salaries are 1.2m - maybe a bit higher - just pay them

Make sure you guide your kids (or grandkids ) toward a saner sport - one that offers less opportunity for damage AND fully guaranteed contracts . . . . . . ie; just about anything BUT football (and boxing) . . . . . . .

Well there's always chess, if AI isn't allowed. Ping pong gets kinda viscous. Then again, I've seen guys resign by throwing the board.

Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
              Let’s win one for Mack.

It’s the domino theory. If you give the second rounders fully guaranteed contracts, pretty soon the 3rd rounders will want them too. then the 4th rounders. then everybody.

Absolutely. Let them earn it. Giving it to them just makes them fat and lazy.

Some of those chess grandmasters can get kind of tempermental...after Alexander Alekhine once lost a match, he grabbed his king and threw it across the room, then shouted, "Why must I lose to this idiot?!!!"

If this continues, in a few years, we may see 7th rounders demanding not only fully guaranteed deals, but also limo service to and from practice and games...

I have zero issues with Tre being 1 of the 30 holding out, now if he was only 1 of 2 then yes. This is an issue with 30 of 32 teams, a nothing burger.

Wat to go guys. I was stoked about the coming season. Thanks for throwing a bucket of cold water on my imagination. looks like more SOS now.
right, its all the texans and browns fault, they gave them guaranteed contracts now all the other 2nd rounders are united and not signing.
najee didnt learn from the last firwork incident that left pierre paul without some fingers.
but hey atleast were getting some news. ill take it,
they could report the players are drinking water tomorrow and ill be happy, atleast theyre telling us something now
