Believe it or not he's faster than Keenan and a little bigger than MW! I think if this kid takes it to the next level, him and Ladd on the field at the same time with him at TE could be lethal on 3rd downs!
I predict we'll be in 12-personnel (2 TE's) around 40% of the time. In most of those packages, he'll be in the slot.
He's too fast for LB's and too big for safeties.
We'll be running the ball close to 45% of the time... play-action the other 55%.
His playing-time will be dependent upon his ability to run-block from the slot.
I didn't see a lot of tape in regards to run-blocking (just receiving highlights)... so this will be something to keep an eye on.

Based on his receiving abilities, I had a 4th round grade on him. We traded up into the 5th round to steal him. Great value pick!
    Protect the QB
    Run the ball
    Play great defense

Herbert on cloud nine thinking of Gadsen and Conklin lined up versus Dissly and Fisk.

Finally a TE room worth getting excited about. Essentially our number 1 TE in Disley is now our #3 and will be our best blocking guy again. Major upgrade in the pass catching dept. Disley was a nice surprise catching but Conklin will be even better as he is a great hands guy and Gasdsen should develop into a real mismatch for defenses to adjust to….hope coaches can turn him into a better blocker so hes not just out on passing downs.

Herb will have a lot more options for talented guys getting open so its not just a 1 trick pony to Konk. Speed and much better hands guys we picked up. May take some games to gel but what a difference year 2 in talent this year AND we still have plenty of cap space to do big contracts and pick up June cut players to bolster our depth…Chef isnt done cookin yet!

He's got a lot of work to do to get on the field. Even for a WR, his blocking is not good. He has to get better.

When I try to find him on game replays, it is hard to tell the difference between him and the other outside WR.

So are we going to howling "OG" every time he catches the ball like the Ravens fans with Todd Heap? "OGEEE" > "HEEAAPP"

His build and the way he moves remind me of Darren Waller. Both were former WR's converted to TE's. I doubt he's as fast as Waller who was a 4.4 guy but besides that the way he moves and catches the ball are similar imo.

If Gadsden can work hard to become a "functional," blocker not even a good one just not a complete liability then he can be a matchup nightmare because they can line him up just about anywhere without tipping off run/pass when he's on the field like Waller at his best was.

Until that happens then I think he will be a big slot on passing downs or in 12 personnel.

I like the pick a lot, he's a modern game TE.

“I like the guys who can create space,” he said. “Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, Cooper Kupp, Evan Engram, Darren Waller, Travis Kelce. I want to be able to create space, catch the ball and get upfield.”

                    Basically this.

Gesicki also needs a lot of work as a blocker. Defensive ends and linebackers routinely beat the blocks from Gesicki, but he even struggled to block defensive backs. In order for Gesicki to become a three-down starter in the NFL, his blocking ability is going to need massive improvement.
                    BTW - combine measurements
                    Mike Gesicki, 6-5/242
                    Orande Gadson 6-5/243

Considering the Chargers were crossing their fingers he'd be available, trading up, and Harbaugh stating "We got a spot where you're gonna help us IMMEDIATELY", while Hortiz stating "I think he'll give us a great vertical presence in the middle of the field".

It tells me they're not wasting time to get his blocking up to par but rather let him loose on plays requiring a TE to attack vertically.

They saw Will Dissly drop a critical 3rd down pass against Houston and have another bounce off his hands for an INT while we couldn't run for shit and said fuck this let's get a guy or two that can catch balls not right in his gut. People used to bitch about Gates blocking and he's a HOF'er. A lot of these guys would've bitched about Marilyn Monroe's cooking
