Great interview, and I think Dilfer was spot on.

        Cliff notes version:

On the Rivers pick 6 int, said that that 32 out of 32 QBs in the league make that same hot read and throw - they just guessed and made a great play. Gave him props for some tough throws in the first half. Ripped Gates and Royal for dropping passes. Didn't think the penalty was a penalty (and was right according to the league). Spoke with Weddle before game and Weddle said that they will not be considered a good defense until they stop the 3rd and longs (didn't change).

          Summary:
          1. Trent is in Bay Area, beautiful morning
          2. Game lost, or one?
o Houston did some good things. Made some plays. Best players made plays. JJ Watt stepped up, shaub, arian foster, OL, etc.. did well. Give them credit.
o Chargers lost it... Eric Weddle is sad. 3/10 pluses - they gave up 3/18 and 3/13 in two tries.

          3. Chargers suck at third and long (defense). Secondary, LB, etc...

          4. The call on the FG sucked donkey balls. Understands it, but it's bullshit (KNSD editorial: They pummel the long snapper harder than he hit the OC on every other field goal attempt. The call was utter bullshit.).
          5. Cushing INT rolled dice and won. Knew the route and took a chance. 32 starting QBs make that throw. (KNSD editorial: Rivers threw it behind the receiver, but would have been picked off anyways)

          6. Ryan Matthews in 2nd half: Chargers tried to use him, but he got stuffed. Chargers couldn't get run going, but were passing well.

          7. Eddie Royal dropped ball(KNSD editorial: This was a game breaker). Gates dropped ball.... SD didn't maximize opportunities.
          8. Rivers' performance:
o QBR - Dilfer wanted a new metric, but the brains at ESPN came up with the formula. It's the #1 metric that equates to winning.
o Back to Rivers: Rivers played well. Dilfer is an admitted Rivers apologist. Rivers has made mistakes, and Rivers owns them.
          - Cushing great play
          - Eddie Royal f**** up
          - Crossing routes were great, checkdowns great, nuances in passing game were great.
          - Rivers was back to his A game.

          9. Chargers lost a HEARTBREAKER! But, Chargers have a lot to look for. DJ Fluker, Clary will be good running ball. Front 7 good. CBs promising.
          10. AFC West is not strong, therefore Chargers have a chance! Will be good team.
          11. Staff - Needs to pull team out of funk.

          That's it.

          Prediction:
          Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

Yeah, IMO the goat is that defense and the 3rd and longs we keep giving up.

I have calmed down from the rage of another terrible loss yesterday. Dilfer made many good points, San Diego D has to fix the third and longs, inexcusable. Interception was a great play and still on PR but not as bad as I originally thought. Two big drops by Royal and Gates did not help the cause. So blame can go around. Looking forward to next week.
