Chargers Photos from the 60s

Thank you for your work on getting these photos together. I was at every one of those home games in the photos. Some memories were certainly revived.

Here's a little tidbit of information. There used to be a hospital (Quintard Hospital) across the street from the open end of Balboa Stadium. I believe it was demolished before the Chargers came to San Diego in 1961. I was born in Quintard Hospital. I also played a couple of high school football games in Balboa Stadium and the Chargers had already moved to "The Murph" by then.

I checked the Union-Tribune archives - your memory is pretty darn good! Quintard Hospital closed in 1959 - it was extensively remodeled and then reopened as Bayview Hospital in 1961. That closed a couple of years later. The location is now part of the San Diego City College campus.

I also played a couple of high school football games in Balboa Stadium and the Chargers had already moved to "The Murph" by then.

Same here. I played for Point Loma High in 1976 against San Diego High at Balboa. It was weird playing in a 30,000 seat stadium (almost completely empty).

I suspect I am really misremembering GM endzone cement rows at the SD Stadium though
