Hey! He had 2.5 sacks against Baltimore. That's on a pace for 24. Along with Manning's 112 TD passes.

I am sure they are feeling pretty good about their first game. Us? Not so much. Freeney is on pace for 8 sacks this year which is a 60% increase over what he did last year but would still trail what Phillips got for us by about 16%.

Fun with numbers. I'd take 8 sacks from Freeney. I expect Phillips to get around 10. He'll start to disappear when his team isn't up by 30. You don't have to talk up Phillips to make your point about Freeney. Unless you want to, of course.

I'd take 8 from him as well. But, that is all he is good for. He is a big liability doing anything else on defense.

Again, I preferred keeping Barnes over Phillips, but either of them would have been a better option for us than Freeney who is costing us a lot of money and, potentially, one of our good young players.

The story below I copied from ESPN. It is real. But the comments in parens are mine.
              TG

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- A day after saying the team was "not happy'' with the latest off-the-field stumbles for Von Miller, coach John Fox said Thursday he believes the Denver Broncos are getting the Pro Bowl linebacker the help he needs to get his personal life on track and to continue to flourish in his career.

"Anything that can be done, we're doing,'' Fox said following Thursday's practice. "In a good way some of this is getting cleaned up. I would remind people it's traffic citations, and we're helping him get those cleaned up. (It's not like Von got drunk and smashed into a parked police cruiser. That is a job for our front office)

"I've had multiple traffic tickets, to be honest with you. It's just a matter of handling it, getting it paid because people want their money, and handling that right away, and we're helping him do that.'' (We are going to enable Von's behavior by cleaning up his poopies, because he cannot be expected to clean up his own poopies. And breaking the law over and over and getting caught is ok, as long as those people get their money that they want on time.)

Miller is one game into a six-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. On Wednesday, team officials were privately wrestling with the revelation that Miller was cited last week for driving without a license and speeding, as well as the fact he had an open bench warrant in California for failing to appear in court for an unpaid speeding ticket he received last year.

The bench warrant in California was first reported by KTVT-TV, the CBS affiliate in Dallas.

Miller's agent, Joby Branion, said Thursday that the ticket was paid and the case was closed more than a year ago. The spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney's office who had spoken with reporters Wednesday told ESPN she does not believe a warrant ever was issued.

Following Wednesday's practice, Fox had said about Miller's citations last week: "Obviously we're not happy about. Everybody here has an individual responsibility, not only to themselves, but to this organization, to this football team, so it's something we're not pleased about. We'll leave it at that.'' (We will sweep this under the rug. That is what we do about things like this. Why waste press time on this when Manti Teo made up a fake girl friend. And look! There is the Loch Ness Monster!)

Miller's latest traffic citations came after he had returned to Denver after a trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with union attorneys to discuss the Broncos' intention to reclaim about $1.25 million worth of signing bonus money because of the suspension. The team plans simply to withhold the money from Miller's game checks when he is slated to be paid again in Week 7 -- and the NFL Players Association is set to battle that decision.

During his suspension, Miller can attend meetings and use the team's weight room, but he cannot attend practices or games. Miller was briefly in the locker room following practice Thursday. Miller was also arrested in August on a failure-to-appear warrant after a mandatory background check at a gun shop near the Broncos' south suburban practice facility. (I know if I was being punished for breaking the law, the first thing I would want to do to demonstrate my new dedication to the team, the sport, and the fans is go gun shopping!) At the time, Miller was preparing for a scheduled appeal hearing over his current suspension. (Poor Miller is in so much legal trouble it is not fair to expect him to keep it all straight.)

He had failed to appear for a court date that stemmed from multiple citations last October for careless driving, driving without a license and not having proof of insurance. (Hey, we all do these things multiple times) His original court date had been Dec. 31. In his latest stop, police discovered Miller's license already had been suspended when a computer check for outstanding warrants was again done. (This is all a computer glitch).

The guy needs to be suspended again just for being a moran.

Denver Bronco Von Miller missed a hearing in Arapahoe County Court on Monday morning, and the presiding magistrate was not amused.

Miller, a third-year linebacker, was scheduled to appear at 10:30 a.m. for two ongoing cases connected to traffic violations, according to court records. Miller's attorney, Abraham Hutt, appeared without his client.

"The court finds it rather ridiculous he doesn't appear this morning and he's mere blocks away. That's what's made a spectacle of these issues," said Magistrate Christina Apostoli.

Hutt promised Apostoli that Miller would arrive in court within minutes. Apostoli had rejected a request by Hutt on Friday to waive Miller's appearance.

Miller was believed to be at Dove Valley, the Broncos' nearby training facility.

Miller was arrested in August after he failed to appear in court for traffic violations connected to a ticket issued in October 2012. In that case, Miller was charged with driving without a license, failure to display proof of insurance and careless driving.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled in that case.

Miller also was scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing in a second case.

In September, Miller was charged with driving under restraint and speeding 10 to 19 miles over the speed limit.

He was at the Broncos practice facility which is right next to the Courthouse. Missing a court appearance that is about missing court appearances. Unbelievable.

I really don't get this. His attorney is at court, but he's not? He obviously must have known about it.

I believe I heard it reported that his attorney told him he didn't need to report. Guess he needs a new attorney.

That seems like a classic attorney move to cover his client.
