Omarion Hampton Running and Pass Protection

I'm watching replay of the game and can't help but impress with Hampton. He never goes down with the first contact. More impressive is his pass pro. I saw him blowing the Chiefs LB at least a couple time. I think we got a real one on our hand. Now I see why Hortiz and Harbaugh love him. Wish I could see more outlet pass to him and see how he could do with it.

agreed with his pass pro. He squares up nicely. Reminds me of little Darren Sproles although OH is way bigger.

he was also very good on selling the fake run on the play-action pass plays. great showing for his first game in the NFL.

Agree with you. I was worried because most college RBs are not really good at pass pro. Kudos to him. I think he's part of the reason why Roman felt comfortable throwing the ball out of the gate besides the threat of Herbert running the ball. If the OL continue to hold up, we got a pretty damn good offense. We can run and throw, pick your vice.

Great observation Datma. I watched his pass pro, too. He effectively found the most dangerous free runner each time and even when he didn’t blow him up he neutralized him so Herbert could get the ball out.
Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

Yeah that's a nice trait for a rook to have out of the gate. Now let's just be sure that Lynch's lecture sticks and he focuses on situational football every play........like DON'T RUN OUT OF BOUNDS!!!

Did you see the reaction of Jimmy after that play ?

                Coach Harbaugh? Yeah. Unhappy.

Hamptons rushing numbers were not great but the Chiefs have a tough run defense...and if you look around the NFL on Sunday, aside from Travis Etienne, many top RBs had paltry rushing totals and poor average per carry in week 1.

Hampton's pass blocking was very good

I know he didn't have a big stat line and remember the rookie mistake at the end of the 1st half. But it's his 1ST nfl game, he will learn and improve with more experience. The floor is really high on this one. At least we can expect him to get 2yds on 3rd and 1 💪 while the defense can't guess we will run or pass with him in the lineup

Not many of the rookie RBs put up big numbers yesterday.

Hampton's pass-pro was great. He seemed to always be in position and was physical. I can't recall a miss by him. Even on the Karalaftis sack, OH8 was in position on the edge and sealed off the outside but unfortunately Herbie stepped up and Karalaftis cleaned up underneath.
