It's STUNNING how good a runner Justin Herbert has been this season.
498 yards with a gaudy 6.0 ave, second amongst all NFL QBs this year.

Lamar Jackson, 340 yards (5.4 ave)
Jalen Hurts: 421 yards (4.0 ave)
Drake Maye: 409 yards (4.2 ave),
Patrick Mahomes: 422 yards (6.6 ave)
Caleb Williams: 387 yards (5.1 ave)

Behind only Josh Allen in total rush yards, but Herbert has a higher YPC than Allen (6.0 > 5.2)

John Elway's career high: 304
Steve Young's career high: 537 (that guy had Christian McCaffrey caliber speed and running skills)
Vince Young had one season with a higher total than Herbert's, his rookie year with 552

He looked in command and that goes a long way...the allure with Lance is how young he still is and how much unrealized potential he still has...it's not just Charger fans, I think there are people around the league that feel he never got a proper shot with the 49ers or the Cowboys, untimely injuries derailed his development there but also the arrival of Purdy meant that Lance didn't get the extended runway he might otherwise have had...

I hope Lance lands on his feet somewhere, if he's smart about deciding what coach to play for instead of just going for a starting gig...he needs to stay away from shit shows like the Raiders and the Jets and focus on teams like Miami and Minnesota...

He'll be facing the Bronco #1s with 2nd string guys this week so we're not exactly doing him any favors here...

Remember that Lance had a pretty decent preseason...AND there's a weak draft for QB's this year...AND there's several QB hungry teams...a 4th round comp pick for Lance is entirely possible, especially this year...

Lance is 2-3 in five total QB starts five seasons. The Cowboys released him and he was headed to the CFL when Harbaugh decided to take a chance. He played admirably - not lights out - in a few preseason games against practice squad defenders. I don't see the market for him.

I agree Boltdiehard and I thought he was very good in preseason. Just the type of mobility that could defeat a blitz heavy defense because a pocket passer has no chance against this Denver defense.

I was just messin with ya and I know that. It’s not a great opportunity against that defense but if this game is close late in the 3rd quarter I believe the Broncos will tighten up. I would love that.

Last year, Caleb Williams and Drake Maye looked like poor first round draft choices by the knee jerk pundits.

Peyton Manning led the league in interceptions and his team finished 3-13 his first season.

And if that isn’t convincing that QB development needs time…there’s many here that will tell you it’s all about how well his OL is playing.

we might get comp picks this year (2026) and next (2027) in an entirely different way...if Chad Alexander gets a GM job this year and he's been on the short list for two years running and has helped his case even further helping Hortiz oversee two fantastic drafts. If he gets signed then we get an extra 3rd in this the 2026 draft and another 3rd in the 2027 draft as well and that draft capital can be used for trades as well...just something to keep an eye on going into this offseason, Alexander will get a good look this offseason and there is always a spot here and there that could open up and nobody is talking about...

I was referencing comp picks losing free agents and signing free agents. But you are right, if Chad Alexander gets a job - that is an extra 3rd in 2026 and 2027 -- which would be huge

when the season is over - have to see if there are any Joe Thuney or Jonah Jackson type contracts out there teams might want to offload for a day 3 pick....

Yeah, most of us know you’re rooting just as hard for him too and your other post was just your honest assessment of what you’ve seen to date. No problem with that.

But to me, the Charger backup QB’s have been pocket passers in the past and someone like Heineken would be dead meat playing against Denver.m

Trey, on the other hand, is a welcome divergence from past backups and just the type,of mobile scrambling skill that will be the best way to counter Denver’s defense.

Unfortunately,Trey is,playing with backups so his performance should be measured like a one legged guy in a butt kicking contest but I think his talent gives our charger backup squad the best chance to compete.
