Excellent stuff, Xenos! I had to stop mid-article to go to work, just finished it now. Really cool, impressive young protege. He dialed up more pressure than Minter, but is that just his unstoppable predisposition to attack or was it a function of necessity due to his talent gap vs Minter’s … to be revealed! It would make sense when you’re UM and recruiting some of the best DTs in the country - they’re gonna win a lot of 1x1s and 1x2s without sending more pressureOriginally posted by Xenos View PostGood breakdown of O’Leary’s potential scheme here. When I hear O'Leary wants to up the pressure here that sounds perfect!
At times our pass rush was not great these last two seasons, especially in the games we lost and against the better teams.
Let's go!

i agree. if rushing 4 is not generating pressure on the QB, then you have to send 5 (or draw up better schemes to confuse the o-line and QB). you can't let the QB pick you apart.

What is your level of confidence in O'Leary?
'
I can see why the Chargers hired him over someone with more experience in the NFL. He is a Minter disciple, he knows Minter's defense better than anyone outside of Minter himself, he was quite successful in turning around Western Mich's defense in his one season there. I read they would get on a conference call after every Chargers game and Minter would break down the defensive game the Chargers played to O'Leary and his Western Mich. players.
But O'Leary only has one year in the NFL, as the Chargers' safeties coach, is he really capable of stepping in for Minter and getting the defense to play at the same level as Minter. Minter is not going be available to help him. Jesse's dad, Rick Minter, followed his son to Baltimore, O'Leary won't have that resource either.
I don't know what to expect to be honest. I don't think the defense will fall off a cliff, I'm reasonably confident it will still be one of the better units in the league. But will it be a top 5 D as it was the past two seasons under Minter?

Getting him a couple studs in the draft wouldn't hurt his oddsOriginally posted by Velo View PostWhat is your level of confidence in O'Leary?
