One of these guys looks like he'd be pissed if he blew an assignment,
and the other looks like a guy who if he was just buddies with the OC/QB, his failures would be ignored.

Centers are the, cerebral, emotional, and physical leaders of the offensive line, acting as the "quarterback" of the unit. They analyze defenses to set blocking protections, make crucial pre-snap calls, and initiate every play, often serving as the vital, intelligent anchor between the guards and tackles.

      • Cerebral Leader (The "Brains"): Centers must have high football IQ, acting as an extension of the coach on the field. They read defenses, identify blitzes, and direct traffic, making essential adjustments based on defensive looks.
      • Emotional Leader (The "Heartbeat"): They foster camaraderie, set the tone for the group, and maintain composure in the trenches, often holding the unit together.
      • Physical Leader (The "Anchor"): Despite sometimes being smaller than guards or tackles, they must possess intense physical strength and quickness to stop nose tackles and handle stunts. They anchor the middle, ensuring the line operates as a cohesive unit.

Here is our leader of the offensive line the last two years: the guy who set the physical and mental tone.
take away the facial hair and he's the nice fresh faced ladd who just bagged your groceries the other day.
The big kid who got bullied in school. Sweet guy .... helps little old ladies across the street and quick to peel his QB off the synthetic turf after blowing an assignment.

It looks like this guy is frustrated that things aren't working out and is determined to set things right.
University of Wisconsin guy .... has played nothing but center since his freshman year.
Herbert can focus on other things than correcting Boze's line calls. I just like the fact that this guy does not need to dip his head and look at the QB before each snap.
This is the type of guy I always wanted.

Former Commanders center Tyler Biadasz ...

The 100mil under the cap is an indication of how little there was to build with after Hortiz got the job, when you don't have guys worthy of getting paid long term that's not necessarily a good thing, but Hortiz will begin to have that problem very soon when some of his draft picks become eligible for extensions the days of having 100mil in cap space will long gone...

I wanted nothing but the best for Herbert. Kinda over trying to find a “bargain” at this position. Now we have to hope he is fully recovered from his injuries AND use draft capital this year on a future center.

I dunno, not super hyped about it to be perfectly honest. Will wait to see how the rest of our FA money is spent to get better picture. Hopefully we bring in the Bills OG and still draft Ioane or Pregnon. I would feel better about that.
paying the most doesn't always mean you're getting the best, in some metrics our Tyler is better...Linderbaum is not worth the money he is going to get, Haglund thinks that he showed regression in 2025, as in a he might've already played his best football...these positions are so physically demanding that some of these guys just wear out...

There is nothing boring about back to back 11 win seasons to start and all while rebuilding a fucked up roster...the key here is that this move means we are still drafting center of the future and with the extra $ improved depth over just having LInderbaum...

now the Chargers are in position to keep 2 maybe even 3 of their top guys, not sure they re-sign all of them but it could be a combo of Mack/Oweh or Zion/Mack or Oweh/Zion...so if you ask me would I rather have Linderbaum and another one of those guys or Biadasz plus two of those players then it's kind of no brainer for me, I'll take any combination of the three players over any combination of Linderbaum plus one...

If you are excited after signing Tyler Biadasz we are totally different people for me it is another "meh" Hortiz singing that will be determined on his next moves on OL that has to be fixed this year.

We have overachieved both seasons, that is on coaching and QB play rather than roster build that is still full of holes.

Hortiz is way better than Telesco but he has his flaws.

The Chargers could have afforded Linderbaum, Zion, Mack and Oweh. Even if Oweh were 22-25m and Zion 17-20 -they could have made it work . I am just not sure the prices for Linderbaum, Oweh and Mack made sense if they reach those levels - in fact, to me, they don't.

Hortiz though, to your point can sign three players, probably all on the IOL for one Linderbaum. So maybe Linderbaum is better than Biadasz - fine. But for the same money, the group of Biadasz plus two OGs is better than one top heavy Linderbaum plus two cheaper options. And I mean for the same $25m in cap space if Linderbaum has an AAV of $23 - that leaves two minimum level players

That's partly true, but it's also an indication of being responsible and not blowing the cap space on bad FA signings. There are plenty of teams who did a bad job drafting and developing players with very limited cap space.

Exactly this, I expect 2 guards in FA, we saved cash on C it's ok but sign guys to complete this line.

Me too. We only have 5 picks … sign the IOL starters; draft high value/cost Edge, CB, DL. TE could be either. Oweh at $25M instead of Edwards at $18. Oweh is a part time rotational pass-down edge that is poor against run and setting edge while Edwards will play every offensive snap.
