The Chargers could have afforded Linderbaum, Zion, Mack and Oweh. Even if Oweh were 22-25m and Zion 17-20 -they could have made it work . I am just not sure the prices for Linderbaum, Oweh and Mack made sense if they reach those levels - in fact, to me, they don't.

Hortiz though, to your point can sign three players, probably all on the IOL for one Linderbaum. So maybe Linderbaum is better than Biadasz - fine. But for the same money, the group of Biadasz plus two OGs is better than one top heavy Linderbaum plus two cheaper options. And I mean for the same $25m in cap space if Linderbaum has an AAV of $23 - that leaves two minimum level players

Yes now we can sign 2 FA guards and not go into the draft under pressure to alter draft plans because Hortiz has to take a guard in rounds 1 or 2. Hortiz can take BPA which is how you get the most studs on your roster.

We likely cant do that if you give Lindebaum 24 million. The FA guard market is going to be expensive. So is the bidding war for Linderbaum and McGovern with 10 teams looking for centers. Getting ahead of the center market was very smart.

Exactly right. That was kind of my point - Linderbaum is very good , no doubt. But, in Biadasz they got, by all accounts an above average to good center. Do the same at one guard position. And for the other - just get average to above average - with the tackles - that is probably a top 12 OLine. Add some good depth too.

Robert Mays, the Atheletic podcaster is a Big Bears fan and in the discussion, one of the other hosts, Dave Helman said the Bears can get Linderbaum and Mays was like - with all the needs the Bears have I would rather have Biadasz (taped before he signed), and money for Linebacker and safety or whatever positions you can get for 24m

For the cost? I'd say no. Biadasz was a better pass blocker than Linderbaum but ranked lower with run blocking... But I feel like that is misleading since Linderbaum blocked for Derrick freaking Henry.

I think Tyler was the better deal and Linderbaum might be a tad overrated and overpaid.

Either way... I want us to draft a Center regardless.

I think the guys at GAC talked about LInderbaum not being as good of a pass blocker as Biadasz...and if I'm being honest he doesn't look as athletic on tape as Biadasz...the thing about Linderbaum is that he has 1st round pedigree and he's considered the consensus top center in this free agent class and there is a tremendous need around the league, that and his age is driving the crazy market...is he 15 mil APY better than Biadasz? HELL NO

If you are excited after signing Tyler Biadasz we are totally different people for me it is another "meh" Hortiz singing that will be determined on his next moves on OL that has to be fixed this year.

We have overachieved both seasons, that is on coaching and QB play rather than roster build that is still full of holes.

Hortiz is way better than Telesco but he has his flaws.

Linderbaum might be the splashier name in this free agent cycle but that doesn't mean that the Chargers cheaped out on this deal, it just means that they identified a player that fits better into what our new OC wants to do and they got a deal and they jumped on it, simple as that...

This is the type of free agent that TT would've had to overpay just to get him to come over, I don't know how Hortiz does what he does, maybe he makes them an offer that they can't refuse(?) like the Cuban Tony Soprano or something because he get's players to sign for less, the guy is a beast of a negotiator, we've seen this in trades too...our GM gets good deals for our team that translates into wins on the field and all while he's been rebuilding the roster and I'm supposed to be "meh" disappointed by this?

That's partly true, but it's also an indication of being responsible and not blowing the cap space on bad FA signings. There are plenty of teams who did a bad job drafting and developing players with very limited cap space.

Yes he has been responsible, but back to back 100 mil in cap space seasons will not be possible once Alt, Still, Ladd, Gadsden, Hart, Caldwell, Vidal, Mickens, and all the ones 'm forgetting that have already shown up begin to come eligible for extensions, granted some of them Hortiz will let them walk because he'll have a back up plan in place but he will keep his young core of draftees at least thru a second contract...100 mil to spend in free agency will be a thing of the past...

One of the free agents I haven't heard talked about too much is Braden Smith.
He has played RT most of his career... but I think he was viewed as a guard coming out of college.
He might be a guy they put at OG... with the view that he could slide to RT in case of injury to starting OT's.

Me too. We only have 5 picks … sign the IOL starters; draft high value/cost Edge, CB, DL. TE could be either. Oweh at $25M instead of Edwards at $18. Oweh is a part time rotational pass-down edge that is poor against run and setting edge while Edwards will play every offensive snap.

I just don't believe that Hortiz will go thru this upcoming draft with only 5 picks, my guess is that we will draft at least 7 maybe 8 players in the up coming draft, whether it's trade downs or swap picks or something, I don't know how but I feel like it's a really safe prediction that Hortiz will draft more than 5 this year...

Curious as to what you think of Jenkins from the Packers at RG...Haglund from GAC says that he got screwed by GB because they played him in too many positions instead of letting him alone at guard where he had been solid...he should be a cap casualty and I don't believe he'll come with the same injury concerns as AVT...if we go into the draft with Slater, Biadasz, Jenkins, and Alt as our four starters would that be a good position to be in? or would it be better to just get all the starters signed in free agency and go into the draft wide open to whatever?

That is a legitimate concern. But if anyone has the will and work ethic to do it, it is Slater. Josh Simmons coming back from his *****la injury in 8 months to play LT is encouraging
