2026 Draft Depth by Position: Surplus RB,CB,OT,TE

FYI Here is my quick study again of how the top 3 rounds could look like based on supply and demand of each position with each column explained below.

Available : I took the top 96 players per NFL Draftcountdown rankings big board for the top 3 rounds and summed them for each position. ie there are 14 CB available

Need : I took the top 3 needs for each team per ESPN, The Ringer and summed them to get the "Need' total for the position. ie 11 teams have CB as a need

Extra: I then subtracted Available- Need to get a view of the depth for each position. ie 3 extra CB

In short supply are EDGE, IOL,WR while DL is tight but we should be able to snag an EDGE,DL or IOL from the group at #22. Really high demand for EDGE this draft. We may have to move around to get the others in rnds 2 and 3 . Deep draft for RB,CB and OT. There could be a CB steal available in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Surprised RB needs were so low but many teams addressed the position in FA - Travis Etienne, Ken Walker, JK Dobbins, Rico Dowdle , Tyler Allgeier, Isaiah Pacheco etc even we added Keaton Mitchell. We went 22nd last year too btw.

Those positions are very tight. They go BPA for a position of need usually but it is really wide open though. All I can say is our greatest needs are EDGE, IOL,CB and DL. Next probably WR.
Just saying EDGE IOL and WR maybe harder to find in rnds 2 and 3. Crazy things happen though. If a player ranked 10th overall, other than QB ,S and OT fell to us at 22 for a great steal that would be the pick IMO.

I think we are ok for EDGE w Mack for one more year and Tuli but we need depth and someone to replace Mack eventually.

No, it just suggests which positions are likely to have the best talent left at the time of the Chargers' pick.

Here are some of the mocks from CBS. They have teams taking as many as 5-7 EDGE player in the 1st. Many have Rueben Bain, Arvell Reese, David Bailey in the top 10.

Renner: Fano taken #3 overall, in fact Proctor and Lomu are drafted well before Ioane whom falls to the Chargers at #22.


This mock is trash.

Wilson: Chargers bypass both Fano and Lomu whom are available at #22 to draft TJ Parker. This means Chargers tosses BPA approach out the door and disregards potential trade downs at the very least.

FYI Here are the actual results for position by round. DE is EDGE but some EDGE were classified as LB. Rnd 1 was mainly OT, WR, EDGE and LB.
I recall the announcers noticing the various runs too. TEs in rnds 2-3, WR in 3-4 , mid round CBs etc. Interesting too how teams fill needs it seems in certain rounds.

Round 1: 6 OTs, 5 WRs, 8 EDGE/LBs
Round 2: 6 LBs, 5 more EDGE, 4 TEs
Round 3: Big run on WRs starts - 9, run on 5 OTs, 4 more TEs
Round 4: 6 More WR, 5 more OTs, run on CBs starts - 7
Round 5: run on CBs 5, 6 S, 6 TEs
Round 6: 6 DTs , 7WRs
Round 7: 6 more DTs

GM’s are wise to an average RB can gain more yards with a good OL, then an above average RB with a poor OL.

I remember Rick Eisen noting the run on WRs after 15 were taken in in rnd 3-4 and the run on TEs in 2-3.
Lots of teams are now realizing the value of a receiving TE ( Loveland, Warren , Taylor, Fannin, Gadsen etc last year)
