A beat writers job is to report on the team and have as many inside sources as he can. Without pissing off everyone so that they cut off access.
Acee balanced this better than almost anyone.
Name a handful of better beat writers.Hashtag thepowderblues

I don't remember Acee writing anything important. I do remember him kissing a lot of ass.

My problem with Acee is that he always managed to find a way to make himself part of the story. A little too self-promotional for me. Perhaps that's what works these days and obviously by the national play he gets, it's seemed to work for him. Just not my idea of journalism, which is admittedly old school.

I honestly don't really give a shit of the puff pieces they write or whether they are well written. It's nice if they could write with a bit more flair, but I just don't care enough about it to criticize it. A beat writer IMO, needs to be able to relay all the pertinent info about the team, that they won't overtly say - contract issues, guys we are looking at, injuries updates, draft preferences, etc.
He needs to have the ear of the GM and the HC and be smart enough to not piss them off for giving out info they don't want out there, but trust you enough to give out some pertinent info for the fan base.
My only real criticism of our guys is that they don't talk nearly enough about the football aspects of the team, schemes, etc. Neither seems all that football savy or knowledgeable about the X/O's. You rarely see them posting about statistics.
