The last few seasons have been that way especially with the offensive line,

2011-McNeil, & Dielman
2012-Faker Gaither
2013- Flucker, Rinehart, Dunlap......

It can't be understated with how large of an impact it was to the team to lose two young Pro-Bowl level OL for their entire careers in the same season. That is simply terrible luck (par for the course with the Chargers) that is extremely difficult for any team to bounce back from quickly.
