FWIW some knowledgeable fans I know were very happy with the coach D hire. Of course, there's no link to that but he wasn't exactly an unknown.

He wasnt an unknown and players seemed to like him. He also wasnt widely considered the best in the business.

What was unknown is how he would do coaching outside a Chan Gailey gimmick offense.
