Conditions of the suspension, via the league: Meriweather can't practice or play in the Redskins' games this Sunday against the Broncos, and on Nov. 3 against the Chargers. Meriweather also can't take part in any football activities with the team during the suspension. If all goes well, he will be reinstated on Monday, Nov. 4.

Merriweather has been a thug, cheap shot artist all the way back to college. Belicheck drafted him fairly high anyway.

I haven't paid enough attention to him to know if that's how he always plays, but those two hits he had against the Packers early in the season (that was him, right?) Were pretty blatant.

In terms of "thug-ness" yes. But they are different types of thugs, IMO. Merriweather appears to be a cheap-shot artist, as TG said; Finnegan was just a mauler, a pest. He just loved getting under a player's skin with his chippy (i.e. dirty) play. It was nice to see Finnegan a few weeks ago on Thursday night; he looked old and slow and terrible...and got benched.

Merriweather is a thug from waaay back. During the Miami-FIU brawl on October 14, 2006, Meriweather was seen stomping multiple times on several Florida International players on the ground. Meriweather was ultimately suspended by the ACC and Miami for his role in the incident. He was also involved in a shooting. This guy is bad news all around.

Cortland Finnegan is the dirtiest/cheapest SOB I can remember in the past 10 years.

Those highlights above also do not show all the times he "jumps in late" at the end of a play. Someone is tackled, the whistle blows, and he jumps on the pile.

Honestly, I can't stand that guy.

None of those 'lowlights' contradicts what I'm saying. He's a dirty, chippy player. Gets in your face, annoying after the whistle, a lame push out of bounds. Not really a 'head hunter', like Merriweather is supposed to be.

But I'm just splitting hairs here; suffice to say the NFL is better without them both.

Honestly, if the NFL is serious about player safety, they should start suspending these dirty hits after one infraction, not after seven or eight of them.

That will get the message through to these thugs rather than these slap on the wrist fines.
