He signed a franchise tag this year (so, top level S money)... Can't negotiate long term until end of season. Bad bad money deal, but STUD S.

If the Chargers somehow ended up with Byrd they would instantly have one of the top 3 safety tandems in the NFL and greatly improve the secondary. However, without a long term deal in place it makes little sense to trade for a half year rental.

I could see SD offering something like a 2nd rd pick to Buffalo if they have a deal in place with his agent or a 5th with no deal in place.

However, financially he would cost a lot and there is minimal wiggle room in the cap for next year. They would have to be extremely inventive to be able to sign both Byrd and Butler to new contracts.
