Yes. Baseball is broken, and the players union will never let it get fixed.

What about the Sockers? They won championships....and where are they now?

I'm sorry, I lived in Boston from 1998 to 2006, and before that in the Amherst-Northampton area from 1994 to 1998, and Red Sox fans were always visible and vocal during that time. As were Celtics and Bruins fans. You are correct that Patriots fans did not really come out of the woodwork until they stopped being so pathetic, but cannot agree about Red Sox fans.
You have missed a bit being gone. Winning a world series, then a 2nd world series, took away a lot of the hype the Red Sox would get locally. It is almost like, 'been there, done that' with the team so a lot of non-baseball fans who got riled up for the 1st World Series win do not get riled up about their local Red Sox as much as they had before.

They just won the world series and I had 5 posts on my facebook wall about them winning the world series and 99% of my friends are from the area.

I had one person ask me in the past few weeks if I was growing a Johnny Gomes beard (I have a moderately big beard for my size), yet I can guarantee if I had this beard in 2004 one out of every three people would make a Johnny Damon beard comment.

Trust me, it just is not the same; I find it weird you think I somehow am just missing the picture when you are not even around here to experience it...
