    Off-season/2014 Outlook

The Chargers are already projected to be a couple million over the 2014 salary cap as things currently stand. However, they have a lot of moves to make that can easily change the situation and very few impact players hitting free agency.

Here is a list of veterans they can cut and how it will impact the cap......

Freeney- $5.125M Cap hit - $1.625M Dead Money= Cut would save $3.5M towards cap
    Clary- $6.250M Cap hit - $1.7M DM = $4.5M Cap Savings
    Johnson- $5.5M Cap Hit - $3M DM = $2.5M Cap Savings
    Royal- $6.0M Cap Hit - $1.5M DM = $4.5M Cap Savings
    McClain- $3.333 Cap Hit - $833K DM = $2.5M Cap Savings
    Mouton- $984K Cap Hit - $218K Dead Money = $766K Cap Savings

    Total Current Cap Cost $27.189M
    Potential Cap Savings $18.31M
    Dead Money Costs $8.876M

**The cap projections already include the dead money for Gaither and Meachem. Rookie salaries generally amount to $5+ million (the cost savings in releasing JJ).

Here is the list of free agents after this season..........

English, Whitehurst, Butler, Stuckey, Thomas, Alexander, Rinehart, Bird (RFA), Marshall, Brown, Walker, Hawkins, Ohrnberger, Tutu, Keiser and Crezdin Butler.

OLB positions seems to be the biggest decision for Telesco this off-season with English and Keiser both hitting free agency and Freeney being large potential cap savings.

Out of the list mention IMO

Here is a list of veterans they can cut and how it will impact the cap......

Freeney- $5.125M Cap hit - $1.625M Dead Money= Cut would save $3.3M towards cap
Clary- $6.250M Cap hit - No Dead Money = $6.250M Cap Savings (If we get a Free-Agent replacement, renogotiate if Clary doesn't like it BYE)
Johnson- $5.5M Cap Hit - No Dead Money = $5.5M Cap Savings
Royal- $6.0M Cap Hit - No Dead Money = $6.0M Cap Savings (Renogotiate or Cut)
McClain- $3.333 Cap Hit - No Dead Money = $3.333 Cap Savings (Based on our short yardage situation CUT)
Mouton- $984K Cap Hit - $218K Dead Money = $766K Cap Savings (CUT Overdrafted and easly replaced with Walker)

Between Freeney and Johnson it comes down to who they think will be more productive one of them gets cut not both

English - done old regieme bad pick at 18 lack of production 2.5 sacks on the season
    Whitehurst - done period!
Butler - If he doesn't try to break the bank he may be back
Stuckey - stays because of special teams
Thomas -Only as a backup for rotation we need to upgrade
    DX Alexander -pends on Health
Rinehart- okay starter, good backup if we upgrade
Bird (RFA)-keep okay backup good special teams
    Marshall-cut
Brown -It depends who is brought in and DX Health
Walker -solid backup & special teamer
    Hawkins,- cut
    Ohrnberger-cut
    Tutu-cut
    Keiser- good backup
    Crezdin Butler-cut

It is the RB Brown, not Vincent Brown. I should have added first initial. And can't cut other players, they will be free agents and not on team.

Oh I would think Ronnie Brown is replaceable, he did have a good game yesterday.

I really needed this thread. Next year is looking a shitty as this year.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Clary, Johnson, Royal, and McClain all have dead money associated with them. Not sure where you got your numbers.

Yeah, still lots to do for TT.

Really hope Clary renegotiates, nice to try for at least a bit of consistency on the oline.

Yeah because the draft and FA are already over and none of the young guys on this team will get better. At all.

Geez. The whiney, spoiled, sense of entitlement among a lot of Chargers fans is beyond me.

Their dead money calculations are incorrect. Any signing bonus amount that's earmarked for that season would be accelerated as dead cap space.
