3 tackles 1 assist today. He's hardly making a difference on the field. Complete non factor 10 games into the season so far.

I think Butler is solid. He isn't making big plays but frankly who is on our defense? IMO Butler would be freed up to really be more effective if our front line had a pass rush and inside push and let Butler flow to the play vs getting stuck in traffic because our DL aren't doing a lot at this point. Its a sum of the parts issue IMO.

I'd give him a decent offer though, but more like a #10-15 rank type $$ for his position. Its going to take some $$ to keep him but he surely doesn't have the stats this year. I'd like some injury insurance on him though...can't tie up our cap in him....give him escalators vs guaranteed salary. I want to keep him as we have far worse problems than Butler at this point...he's not a weakness...if he's playing.

I am not to sure what decent offer is considered, is he really solid, or based on the level of play of others on D he looks to be the best of sub-par talent. We all can agree this defense has very little talent, but I remember the Jr Seau years when the D wasn't so talented either, but JR always stood out with his talent and desire. Not sure on how to get a good read on Butler. Last year he looked like he was on the verge on being a breakout player, but we thought the same with Reyes, and Liguet.

He is still a good player, he needs what Te'o needs a NT and Reyes and Luigit to play better.
