Supposedly, Cardale Jones is slated to start tonight. Thanks to the new rule about keeping 90 until after the 4th preseason game, there really is no reason to play any starter.

A lot of roster spots across the league are decided in this game. It also gives a lot of guys their most extensive film time for their own team, and other teams, even more so now with the late cutdown. This is all about filling out the rosters and practice squads. This game is HUGE for guys fighting to make the final roster and impress other coaches.

I think at the most there are 5-6 spots on the roster that are undecided, one each from the RB, TE, WR, OL and DB/LB groups, and maybe just for Special Teams. I'd like to see a number of FG attempts by Koo and Lambo, so there is some value in game time evaluation there, but I suspect they already know that position.

Maybe the Cowboys have the right idea, but since they cancelled the moved Texan game, they are broadcasting their practice (without fans) instead. They get the TV revenue, and they also are giving up the unrefunded gate to the Houston relief effort.

"Who's stepping up in the backfield to be the tandem back with Melvin (is one of the position battles to watch for)," Lynn said this week.

Branden Oliver has been used as the team's main change-of-pace back with Gordon when the starters have played during preseason play, but it appears the Buffalo product's role of complementary back is written in pencil, not pen.

Bruising runner Andre Williams has the most carries of any running back with 26 in exhibition play, but he's totaled just 52 yards (2.0 per carry) and has fumbled.

Limited during training camp because of injuries, Kenjon Barner has just six carries for minus-1 rushing yard.

Undrafted rookie Austin Ekeler has been the most productive with 37 rushing yards, averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

And Kenneth Farrow remains sidelined with an ankle injury.

This is some sad stuff. I'm hoping Ekeler can break out for 50+ plus a few passes.

Im sure we will see Clemens at some point and really we should. Cardale hasnt exactly taken the backup job from him so far...as sad at tha is to say. Id like to see Berco and Jones play in this game though and not Clemens. But, im sure the vet presense will win out over Berco but we sure could save some cap space cutting Clemens.

Man you said it right. We can't win with Clemons, so why not save cap, keep Jones and Bercovci. At least put Berco on PS. Anything on the trade Inman idea. We really need a vet LB and OT.
