    Bronko's and Clady not close.

Ryan Clady, Broncos 'aren't close' on extension By Matthew Fairburn on Jun 30 2013, 3:27p @MatthewFairburn  +

Clady hasn't signed his franchise tag and is seeking a lengthy contract.

he Denver Broncos have resumed talks with offensive tackle Ryan Clady about a contract extension, but the two sides are not close to reach a deal, according to National Football Post.

Clady, the No. 12 pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, has played five seasons with the Broncos and is working on an extension that will be his second NFL contract. He played the final year of his rookie deal in 2012. That contract guaranteed him $23.375 million.

According to reports, Clady is seeking a contract extension similar to the seven-year, $80.5 million deal that Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas received last August.

The Broncos gave Clady the franchise tag, but the three-time Pro Bowler still has not signed it and appears intent on getting a long term deal before he suits up.

He'll sign the Franchise offer. Or they'll hammer out a deal before the season starts. Only the Chargers have 'Jackholes' on the team.

Can the Broncos afford Clady and Peyton Manning? And all the other guys they signed this off season? And Von Miller will need a new contract soon.

Or are they cheating on the cap like they did in their Superbowl years? Seems like a good trade-off...win a superbowl and forfeit a third round pick 5 years from now.

They may not be cheating right now, they have been letting all their high priced vets go (like Dumervil) and signing cheap replacements like Phillips. The major exception is Champ Bailey, but they really don't have any other expensive vets. I expect a lot of their FA are signed to big bonus, pro rated contracts that are back loaded. It works well short term, but will eventually come back to haunt them (thinking Wes Welker here).

Now, that being said, at some point they won't be able to keep that up. It's pretty easy to juggle the cap short term, but almost impossible to do it for very long. They need Clady right now, since he is the one guy they almost cannot replace. Manning is old and a statue in the pocket, and he won't see the end of his contract. Welker is getting up there, so he probably won't either.

so who is the scrub LT protecting 100 Million Dollar Manning's blindside without Clady? Their season surely is lost now. Where's alll the panic?

Clady wants a ltd at a fair price. He knows he can get his demands in FA. I can see him comming in at the last minute, but ill wager he is not bluffing. If the Bronkos dont talk contract soon he will go to FA.

Clady's tendency for underachieving will not hurt him as much as some of the other guys like Vollmer and Long being injury prone.

In some ways he is more valuable than Manning. At best, they are going to get another couple of years out of Manning. But you always need a good LT, no matter who your QB is.

Bluffing about a long term contract. If he doesnt get one I bet he goes to FA before negotiating with Donky grin.
