So the Chargers have a player a $20mil contract and he wasn't even a premier free agent?

Verner i wouldnt think will be a premier FA. He will cost but he shouldnt be THAT expensive. We can cut Cox after this season too. Ive seen where his contract would save us money actually in another forum. I put out a claim to another forum to see if it can be found.

Here is something to play with. Not sure i get it yet. I havent spent much time looking at it. It is a cap calculator.
Verner is arguably a top 3 CB in the league. He will get paid.

Are you kidding? Top 3? Um , no he isnt. Where have to EVER seen him mentioned with the top CBs in the league?

Just because they overpaid didnt make him a premier free agent. CBS sports ranked him #34 of the top 100 free agents. Not bad but he wasnt top 20 and he sure isnt playing close to being even a decent CB. Dont know what happened to him.

LOL, Ive seen him play plenty and wanted us to draft him. This is his best season and has been a steady player but he isnt a top 3 CB. I dont know who the guy who wrote that is but he has Cro way down on that list and is better by far than his cousin and the Honey Badger was playing safety before he got hurt but has him as one of the top shelf CB's while not even playing a full season as a rookie?

                  Um, ok

I really like Verner. I think he will get around what Cox got, maybe a bit more. Id pay maybe up to 6 mil a year for him. We have plenty we can cut to make room. Butler is a priority first though.

Here are the other CB's and their contracts signed this past off-season-

Sean Smith (KC)- 3 yr $16.5M
Aqib Talib (NE)- 1 yr $4.975M
Brent Grimes (Mia)- 1 yr $5.5M
Chris Houston (Det)- 5 yr $25M
Greg Toler (Ind)- 3 yr $14.25M
                    Cary Williams (Phi)- 3yr $17M
Keenan Lewis (NO)- 5 yr $25.5M
Kyle Arrington (NE)- 4 yr $16M
Leodis McKelvin (Buf)- 4 yr $17M

So if your question was did they overpay then the answer is yes. If you are trying to say he was a "premier" free agent because they overpaid then you are wrong. At $5M per season he is right in line with what Sean Smith, Aqib Talib, Brent Grimes, Chris Houston, Cary Williams, and Keenan Lewis received per year. Unfortunately the price for CB's last season was high and Telesco picked the wrong one.

You would've got a lot of argument last March when Cox was signed that he was not the premier CB FA on the market. People for the most part thought it was a great signing.

I am not disagreeing with you on that at all. I too thought it was a good signing. Keenan Lewis was my prime choice but I was happy with Cox. However, liking the signing or being happy with it does not mean he was considered a "premier" player. Maybe we are just differing on the semantics of what we consider "premier".

I hardly knew who he was so i wasnt one of them. I had to go read about him so he didnt stand out to me and i wanted to see why he warranted 20 million and thought it was high then. It looked like a good signing on paper but still thought 20 mil was high.
