what part of the "letting go of older vets/not signing big money guys/getting younger" plan does Freeney fit into?

my point is there was a need for an extra pass rusher because we lost 2 in the offseason and only added 1 (before Ingram's injury) and that the others on the roster are not exactly pass rushers.

It's clear there's no getting through to you. The plan of going young CHANGED when our young guy went down for the year...

Our second young guy (English was already going to be splitting his time with JJ).

Our Rookie was only going to get a handful of snaps a game.

We had to replace our young 1st rounder with someone that could come in and play immediately this season. This all happened post draft/post free agency starting. Vets were all that were left available.

If you notice through out the rest of the defense we have gone young. If an injury happens, I expect a vet off the FA pile to be brought in. Doesn't mean we didn't go young.

technically Osgood was a wr. so really, some seem to be content with what we have at OLB because by virtue of their position title, they are all pass rushers. Considering how anemic at pass rushing our OLB core was last year (and Phillips/Barnes were the top 2 in sacks combining for 12...they're no longer here), what we have right now is not a concern?

assuming Freeney has not lost a step and can now suddenly play faster outside of indoor playing fields, and lets say he matches or surpasses Phillips output last year then that's a wash. and if English can stay healthy maybe he'll be able to match his career high 3 sacks, then losing Barnes is a wash. Maybe if Tourek somehow manages to surpass even the great English and Ingram in being converted into a pass rushing OLB in his rookie season then even better. and JJ suddenly becomes a pass rushing demon....then sure, our OLB core is perfect.

Why select Ozgood? Were his skills as a WR viable in the nfl he would have been here longer. All im saying and its true is depth has to have value on special teams, not enough roster spots for this team to carrie a bunch of specialists.

We never would have added Freeney at that price had Ingram not gone down.

i'll use the same excuse that's been bandied about here and on the old board "This is what MM/TT are willing to go forward with this season" since that was the rallying cry whenever someone brings up there's quite a few more holes that we should be worried about.

Certianly when Ingram went down cheeper younger better options had to be avialible or TT reacted to the loss by bringing in the best pass rusher that did not require a trade without reguatd for age. In other words the best bandaid he could buy.

As Steve has said it is about quality reps, more guys who wouldnt normaly get quality reps will. Some of them will take advantage hopefully, like what happend in Indy last year.
