Chargers Stay Alive In Playoff Hunt!

    images.jpeg

Hello Charger fans! It's time for another L.A. Chargers Safe Haven blog series post, sponsored by our friends here at The Powder Blues! Please visit www.LAChargersSafeHaven.com to view additional articles, and content.

Well, the Chargers aren't winning the AFC West. They managed to squeak out a win in an awful
performance against the Jets. It was everything that has haunted the team all season long... rolled into one.

Bad special teams play. Dropped passes. The quintessential Bosa penalty at the last minute. No pass rush. Runs up the gut for losses. A missed field goal. Bad playcalling. Burning timeouts. Offensive line implosions. Mike Williams got hurt again. Poor QB play from Rivers. No points in the 1st or 4th quarter against a bad team. Letting the opposing QB escape for chunk gains. Bad tackling. A negated TD due to a special teams penalty on Dzubnar. Red zone and third sown conversion breakdowns.

The only thing that went right today was a decent performance by Gordon, Gates, and Allen.. Maybe you can throw in Tyrell, and no turnovers. And, the Jets didn't know how to call timeouts at the end of a game, apparently?

Most importantly, however, the Chargers got the help they needed around the league. The Patriots, Ravens, and Rams all handled business... Keeping the Chargers alive for another week. Seeing how the Chargers played today, I'll chalk this up to a Christmas miracle.

But, a win is a win... as they say.

Assuming the Chargers don't stink it up, hosting the Raiders at home on Sunday, they have a very real shot at the playoffs. It's quite likely that the Jags and Ravens will help out the Chargers by beating the Titans and Bengals next week. But, nothing is guaranteed, and they still have to beat a Raiders team that will not let them get away with the performance we witnessed against the Jets this week. The Raiders would LOVE to spoil the Charger's chances at a playoff berth. So would John Pagano.

So, as pessimistic as this article soinds, and as horribly as this team played today... the Chargers can still handle business next weekend. If so, they will most likely be in the playoffs. We will be on scoreboard alert for one more week. We will all be hoping Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch has a bad game against our weak linebacking corps.. Yikes!!!

Of course, this hinges on the Baltimore and Jacksonville NOT melting down. But, the Charger's chances, officially, look better this afternoon than they did this morning.

Now, for some positive. The Chargers got another road victory today, in a must-win situation. Gates stepped up, Williams stepped up, Gordon stepped up, Kaser stepped up, Rivers didn't step down, and the defense only allowed one score. Something that is becoming commonplace around these parts.

All good news. The Titans hold that last playoff spot, but probably shouldn't. It's the Charger's spot for the taking.

Here's to hoping Adrian Phillips and Mike Williams are OK. Here's to Gordon's ankle healing quickly. Here's to a playoff berth next weekend, and opening up 2018 with a postseason appearance. Here's to the Chargers NOT shooting themselves in the foot over and over, like they did today. Here's to the Chargers beating the Raiders twice this season.

    Keep bolting toward excellence.

    Pete

Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    The Wasted Decade is done.

They were awfully close to shooting themselves up higher than their foot. Any win is a good win, as long as Rivers isn't hurt. Merry Christmas.

Youtube Azealia Banks 212.. She covers it pretty well. Although it applies more to the Chargers right now, more than the Jets.
