I heard Charlie Ebersol, the founder of the league, and there were some interesting facts:

    - No team owners (all teams are league owned, by the investors)
    - No xfl gimmics, real football
    - Run day-by-day by Troy Polomalu and J.K. McKay. Not a just a marketing idea with football as a product.
    - Will not compete for players with the NFL.
    - They entered into NFL cities (Atlanta, Phoenix) only after discussing that with the NFL.
    - They already have a TV partner... CBS.
    - As for San Diego, they are neutral on the Stadium development competitors.
    - Their measure of success will be over years, not just the first year.

I do think it will be an uphill battle, but if they keep their goals modest, they could run this out to be a decent business, maybe to become that actual development league for the NFL.

Looking at that list, it looks like it might be a developmental league for coaches as well.

Anything that makes the off-season go by quicker is a win in my book.

Makes you wonder if they will incorporate a waiver wire system or just let NFL teams poach whoever they want

I wonder if the players will all be Free Agents or Independent Contractors on 1 year at a time deals? Or all of them employees of the league itself, but outside of the NFL collective bargaining and union requirements? Hard to see value/logic in multi-year deals working in a brand new league that could fold at any time. If all players are FA at the end of each season (maybe with 1st rights of refusal by current team for some specified window after last game if league survives) that would work for everyone, and regular NFL teams would just bid for players like Street FAs.
