One of the problems I have with the college bowl system is the fact that there is this huge disconnect between the season and the bowls. You play the regular season, then take a month off and play the bowl game. Is it any wonder that some teams respond well and others don't? Alabama has a ton of bowl experience and expect to be playing in the Championship every year (and the last 2), so I think they are expecting the season to go on through January. ND has been bad, and I don't think they were focused enough, and maybe they just shut down at the end of the season.

The other issue is, who else was really good enough to beat Alabama? I know ND didn't have a great chance, but who was better? The only way ND doesn't deserve to be in the game is if someone better wasn't. I buy that ND wasn't going to beat AL, but I don't (didn't) see another option.

Teo basically admitted to panicking, along with a lot of his teammates, all of them trying to make a big play once they got down.

I would have liked to see Stanford play Bama. I think that would have been a great game. ND was just outmatched in every way and the game went exactly as I expected. I tought a team like Stanford had the bruisers, muscle and system to compete with Bama.

Each day that passes takes Manti Te'o further from the "Catfish" scandal.

This is a good thing for the San Diego Chargers' rookie linebacker. Frankly, it's a good thing for all of us.

Still, Te'o's sordid past makes him an obvious target for veteran ribbing in his first season in the NFL. NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano asked Te'o if he faced the wrath of teammates during organized team activities or minicamp.

"No, lucky for me I'm surrounded by guys in San Diego who really care about football and really care about winning, and they really care about people," said Te'o, who's in Aurora, Ohio, for this week's NFL Rookie Symposium. "And for me as a rookie, I just keep my head down and keep working and keep my head in the playbook, so I don't give them a reason to yell at me or give them a reason to not like me.

"For me, I'm just keeping my head down, do my responsibilities and make sure that I'm working to be the best linebacker I can be."

Unless the Chargers have assembled a locker room of Mother Teresas, Te'o is going to take some "Catfish" heat. It's a given. Once Te'o gets past that stage, he finally might have the entire saga in his rearview mirror.

It remains to be seen how he pans out, but he sure does seem to have the perfect attitude going for minimizing the post-hoax damage. I imagine the first time through the league he's going to hear some pretty funny stuff - hope he has a thick skin!

I think he sucked in the title game because of the drama around his fake gf. That had to make it hard to focus. Whether he deserved the backlash or not he had to have been in hell leading up to the game. Of course the game important but his career was in trouble. had the catfish not happened and he played his game hes probably a top 15 pick. Hell i had him top 10 before the game.

Before the catfish and game I thought he was top 10.

The catfish made me question his character. It still does.

Going out there and playing good football will make me forget that.

He could even be the next Jyles Tucker.
