That is kind of typical this time of year. OL and DL who have shown steady improvement are easy to project. Particuarly when you think that two of those guy might have gone there if they had come out this season (Mathews and Lewan).Originally posted by Beerman View Post
Skill players are kind of all or nothing, so some guys who have made a ton of progress have yet to show anything. That is just the nature of it. You can't be 75% of a good receiver and have 75% of the production. You have to run the routes, catch the passes, make the moves after the catch, or none of it happens. But a big kid who has some skills can play OG while they learn the technique to play OT. DL can hold their own if they have the speed to run around blocks or if they have the size to overpower the average college OL.
You see a lot of the OL and DL drop some as many of them are adjusting to new positions, and the skill guys come out of no where early in the season. Then as everyone figures it out, the linemen rise back up, especially through the bowl games, then the skill guys rise back up after the combines.
At this point, any guy on any list of prospects can still implode. All it takes is not coming in and being serious. Whether it is being out of shape, or playing not to get hurt, or just thinking you already have it made, any kid can screw up his chances. And a lot of those guys are replacing guys, and are just guesses at this point. They still have to take that last step up, in many cases replacing a departing teammate.Comment
