Like Ballmer, Bezos or Elon 😄. Feels funny to even type Elon. Doubt he likes sports.
Just saying guys like this dont need a huge revenue stream or market to afford to stack a team. Its all chump change to them. They could do it just to make an entire city love them. God status. lol
I wonder if the new owner would seek to move the team to a better baseball market.
Fuck man, I really didn't need to read that before bed. Haha
I don't think we (SD) could survive that.
It's one thing when dad moved away (Chargers) but now mom takes off with her rich boyfriend and we're left home alone, holding our peckers?
The embarrassment alone would traumatize me.

Its sad Seidler wanted his family to own the team for decades, his widow wanted to carry out his wishes, and instead we got lame brothers in control who stopped spending to try and win and just wanted to maintain. Now we got Tatis trade rumours and likely a pending sale. Why they fight the widow for control when they don't even want anything to do with the team after all. I don't expect them to sell to whoever is best for the Padres and San Diego they will sell to whoever offers them the most. Sure we can hope for something better because these brothers clearly changed up the way we did things after Peters death but Peter was the best owner we ever had and I find it hard to believe we would get new owners with his drive to win and invest in the product.
But heck maybe we can get owned by some super rich group and operate like the Dodgers, yeah I don't think that is going to happen. I doubt they would move because outside the TV deal the ballpark and fan support and revenue generated from that is excellent but if some owner like the movie Major League came in and just wanted to buy them to move them I doubt that would stop these guys from selling.

The Stammen hire was a head scratcher for sure. However from a outsider's perspective he may just be a placeholder now that the team is for sale kinda like Kotsay with the A’s and as soon as that new stadium is built in Vegas the current owner is going to sell. I can’t see the Padres leaving San Diego where they gonna go? MLB over-expanded as it is and the Rays are first in line for any moves to new markets. I also think the A’s are fucked and the Vegas economy is not well and IMO the support isn’t there again the owner just sees his return and that’s fine. This offseason will tell a lot about the Padres’ plans for 2026.

“With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, the Padres mourn the passing of our beloved left-hander, Randy Jones,” the Padres’ statement read.
“Randy was a cornerstone of our franchise for over five decades, highlighted by becoming the first Padres pitcher to win the Cy Young Award. Inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame in 1999, his impact and popularity only grew in his post-playing career, becoming a tremendous ambassador for the team and a true fan favorite. Crossing paths with RJ and talking baseball or life was a joy for everyone fortunate enough to spend time with him. Randy was committed to San Diego, the Padres, and his family. He was a giant in our lives and our franchise history.”

Pads are $300M in debt.
Mildly surprise
That reminds me horribly of the Frank McCourt years with the Dodders. Dude was a fraud and had $0, he needed everything from the Dodgers to make money and didn't spend any. Dark days indeed.

I lived for nights when Randy pitched. The Padres were my life during the Spring and Summer. Back then their won-loss record didn't bother me at all. That attitude should come in very handy in 2026...ha. Randy's pitching was always a huge thrill for me. Especially if it was against the Phillies, Pirates or Reds. Those teams had great line ups back then and Randy would dice them up like child's play. The Cardinals always seemed to hit Randy well though. Randy would make it look so easy. And he pitched close to 300 innings if not over during some seasons. Amazing. Padres fans who didn't experience the Randy Jones era seriously don't know what they missed. Randy was like our Jesus coming to save us from the demons (or Dodgers...same thing, ha) that were always clawing away at us as Padres fans. It was a religious experience for me when Randy Jones took the mound...NO DOUBT!
I also loved to go watch Randy pitch. I remember the real fast game against Jim Kaat and the Phillies I think it was. I got there a little late, about the end of the first inning. Went up and got a beer and a hot dog, came back sat down and the game was about over. haha. RIP Randy Jones.
