History suggests The Spani don't like wasting $ on contracts and would overrule the GM or HC if they felt like hanging onto a player they were still paying.

What history suggests that it's directly tied to Spanos?

He had a bad rookie year. Thats it. Fred Jackson was always used in addition to Spiller. He has shown when you use him as the primary he will put up crazy numbers. 200 carries last year for 1250 yards. Imagine if he another 100 plus carries like Martin/Foster/Peterson/Lynch/Charles. He would have been 2nd overall in rushing with a the load those guys got.

        Hes clearly no bust.
At his size, do you really think he can handle a 300 carry season?

Maybe..I was thinking more in line with Jamal Charles' 285 carries. Same size. The fact he played through a shoulder injury is pretty impressive. The fact he still played at an elite level is even more impressive. With Jackson out of the way i expect closer to 275 carries this year.

Not many guys the same size as either of them can sustain even that level of production at their size. Most peak and fade pretty quickly. Remmber a couple of years ago how everyone said Chris Johnson would be so unstoppable? But what has he done?

AS far as Spiller goes, can he be considered that much more successful when he has worse stats then Mathews?

            ATT.....YDS.....AVG.....LNG.....TD.....FD.....REC. ....YDS.....AVG.....LNG.....TD
            564....2,476......4.4......39......14....111.....1 11.....852......7.7........42......0 Mathews
            388....2,088......5.4......62......10......88..... 106.....885......8.3.......66......5 Spiller

Given the size thing, I am not sure I would be that encouraged that he can carry a big load. He gets the nod as slightly more successful because of the way he finished last season, but I think the primary reason people are down on Mathews is that they have watched him so much more. A lot of my friends in WNY were really down on Spiller even last year, and most are only cautiously optimistic, particularly since their OL is gutted and they still don't have a QB.

But until he's proven otherwise i sort of expect he can handle the load.

So a guy coming off a 1000 yard season who finished strong. Fair enough.

Except that that description fit Mathews last year.
