He looked like a different guy, and we looked like a different team when he was injured.

The other thing to remember about Dunlap is that he had very little playing time before last season. Last year was the first season he really got to play, and he got a lot of lumps because he was so inexperienced, even though he was technically a vet. But while a lot of philly fans hated, him he did show some improvement as the season went on, although even by the end of the season, he wasn't all that great.

He did play in 20 games before the 2012 season. So he wasn't that raw.Originally posted by Steve View PostThe other thing to remember about Dunlap is that he had very little playing time before last season. He played 34 games on the OL before signing with the Chargers. And only a few of those at Guard.Originally posted by Steve View Post20 games blocking for extra points and FG? Or 20 games at OT? My understanding is that he really hadn't had little playing time at OT.Hashtag thepowderblues

Started 19 and played in 15 others.Originally posted by Beerman View PostHe only started 19 games before he joined.
It really doesn't matter.
He wasn't some wet behind the ears scrub when he signed with the Chargers. And Eagles fans had good reason to not like himHashtag thepowderblues

But when they list games that you play in, if you go in on the FG team, that counts. You can get credit for having played in a game if you are on the FG team, or on the extra point team. But those really don't mean you are working on developing as a player. And not all games played are equal. If you go in for a couple of plays when someone breaks a piece of equipment, then you aren't going to get as much experience as if you played the whole game.
The other thing is guys who don't play well get better the more they play. So, Dunlap playing poorly because he is inexperienced would be better by the time he gets to play for us, and it is completely experience related. 19 games sounds like gaining experience to me. One of the best FA OT this season is Austin Howard, and he has finally come into his own after being a starter for a couple of seasons, although he was dreadful his entire 1st season.
Some of it is certainly scheme related. Between the fact that Vick likes to scramble into pressure, and that Philly loves to mix in a ton of zone and man blocking, then maybe it isn't. But my understanding of it was that he was not getting a lot of playing time and was being bounced between positions, so that many of his reps were working against each other.Last edited by Steve; 01-27-2014, 12:23 PM.
