The first Ravens Super Bowl team had a badass defense too.

Bears got a lot more pressure on the Pats then the Seahawks did on the Broncos.

But you couldn't play the Bears 46 D like you did back then. Too much spread, you would get burned too bad.

Seahawks got a lot out of shifting up their coverage and not rushing as hard. Lots of coverage traps, droping DL into coverage, you would never have seen the Bears weaken their rush to help their pass coverage.

Ravens and Vikings (never made it too the SB) were the best run D of all time. Just a bit better then our run D in 1998. But none of those teams (us in 1998, Ravens in their SB, Vikings D around then) where just were all time greats due to the rest of their D. Not bad, just not as impressive as "all time" should be associated.

Looking at Seahawks, the big difference is that they rush the passer off the edge much better then us, their DL shed blocks much better, and they all tackle a lot better. In terms of run fits and such, they really aren't any better. The Seahawks hybrid 34 D gives teams those same seams that they run at with us. So, if they are any better at all in that area, it is just the tackling, shedding and rushing the QB.

The Broncos burned the candle at both ends all week in NYC. And it looked like it on Sunday night. They didn't treat it as a business trip.
I went to college with a guy who was a waiter at a restaurant in Little Italy in Baltimore. He said that he was the waiter for the Colts the night before their loss to the Namath led Jets in the Super Bowl. And he said they were under the table drunk.

        Truth? Who knows.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
        Let’s win one for Mack.

Back then, football fans were less holy.
I think one of the first Super Bowl MVPs was drunk or hungover during the game.
For the Raiders Super Bowl championship teams, I'm pretty sure sobriety was grounds for being cut from the team.
The only team that even pretended to be angels, the Cowboys, were made fun of because of it.

Could very well be true, but I think that game was played in Miami at the Orange Bowl?

Don't know, there was never any way to confirm what he said, so I took it as an interesting gossip item.

There has never been a fan base more in love with themselves than Seattle's. People actually wear jerseys with a 12 and FAN where a player's name would normally be. They carry little 12 flags, they raise a 12 flag to themselves before each game. They post false start stats on the scoreboard. Do these fans actually give a shit about the Seahawks, or is it all about them?

The media and NFL were so set to anoint Peyton Manning as the greatest of all time, the MVP was his as long as the Broncos won, even if he didn't really deserve it (just like his previous Super Bowl MVP, and that of his little brother), and then the Seahawks took a big old shit in the punchbowl. Loved it!

It happens all the time. I was in a restaurant in Solana Beach the night before the Chargers played the Raiders in the playoffs in 1981 and Fouts, his wife, and another couple were in the restaurant drinking pitchers of margaritas. They were in the restaurant when we got there, drank 3 pitchers while we were there, and were there when we left, still drinking away. We lost the game.

I would hope that was just a different era. I used to work with a guy that briefly played in the NFL. Mike Tice made him go out drinking with him the night before a game. Tice usually drank until 3 in the morning. But he had no issues playing the next day. Apparently he did it all the time, as did others.
