The first 3 years of the deal are the most relevant I think. Even if Butler plays well he may be a cap casualty after the 3rd year. $6.5M per year is certainly a steep price for a guy that can't stay healthy a full season but he is a good player. Only 3 years of commitment makes it not such a bad deal for the Chargers IMO.

I like that deal. We can get out from it in 3 years if he doesn't produce or keeps underperforming/injured. He gets paid if he makes it to that Elite level. 6.5 I guess isn't terrible. Cheaper than Ellerbe's 7 mil per for 3 years at least.Last edited by Beerman; 03-03-2014, 01:40 PM.

Ellerbe's deal is essentially a 3 year deal too with the last two years being a non guaranteed 6.45 and 6 mil. If he's cut after three years, he will have banked about 23mil.
