Unless you are defending the position that we should have offered and he should have accepted a 3 yr $3M deal that wasn't ever going to happen.

Or unless your position is that any tiered deal like this is an admission that the player is a dud and will be let go after the first three years.

A lot of other teams were interested in Butler. He would have gotten it from other teams if not from us. And a lot of them have a lot more cap space then us, so they can afford to really overpay.

I think they overpaid, but that's what you get in a free market. Best luck to Butler going forward. I like the guy and hope he will finally fulfill his potential.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
        Let’s win one for Mack.

          Stop.

He is already a failure and Telesco has admitted as much by not keeping him on board for the last four years of the deal.

Actually, a free market is supposed to cut down on over-payments. The NFL isn't really a free market.

8 votes (tied for most) for 5 mill, 2 votes for 6 mill, and 1 vote for whatever it takes. I voted 5 mill; you voted 6. Can you drop your schtick now? Thanks.

                So did I.

And he did. More than I thought. Cost the team more than Ellerbe over 3 years and more than Bowman over 7. Which I thought he'd get less than.

Good for him. Now its time for him to prove the doubters wrong.

                  Fuzzy math lately?

90% of the board had him at 5mil or less per year.

At 6.5-8mil a year most of the board wasn't 1mil off.

That's all I'm stating is that this board was way off in the amount it would cost to keep Butler. Not even close.

I said he would most likely get in the 6 range. I wanted 4 but used a smiley to show i was kidding. My reasoning for him in the 6 range was based on supply and demand issues at the position. In both the draft and FA. Plus hes the only real 34 stack guy in free agency. Mix in teams like the Browns who need a MLB and have huge cap space i could see them being interested in replacing Jackson with the younger Butler. I think he could have easily gotten what he did on the open market.

Its hard to say we operpaid when the market probably set that price if you want to project. But i personally was hoping for less. Based on some sort of crazy injury discount that Butler was supposed to give us. I actually had that rolling around in my head. lol

This day and age young players usually get more than they are worth if they are good. And some team will always operpay the oft injured player.

                      I don't think they overpaid.

But it's a good deal for Butler. He gets paid as one of the top players at his position but he also lines up a 2nd free agent payday rather early. Most players don't reach a 3rd payday.

And Butlers work ethic is amazing. Hes a good core player and leader. A lot of guys take the money and slack. Butler is the opposite of that. I know he will bust his ass for that contract and want to prove hes worth it. The Weddle effect.

                          But Bowman was a fail.
