Are you on a military base? Maybe it is different or maybe I have just been unlucky with the bases I am at. The ESPN forums were always blocked for me as well.

Even in Iraq, the firewalls blocked all of the sports forums sites.

This is why you can never trust your government. Any governmental body that blocks sports websites has to be a communist entity that's trying to subvert our American belief and value system. If you think that forum is bad, spend a little time on Aztec Mesa. If anyone dares to even faintly critique a player (Winston Shephard is the main one) or don't toe the company line about how great everything is, you are absolutely ripped to shreds. The mods aren't ban crazy but boy do they like to jump on people.

My son got an offer from SDSU for Rugby. Coaches were awesome. His friend Jon Raby signed on this year. Thats a good start for building a contender. My son would go just to play with him.

Very nice. As an alumni (so is my wife) I think it would be great to build a contender around little Fleet!

The school also offers a really good education. But hes also got the top 3 rugby schools (Cal, Saint Marys and UCLA) poking around. He just flew out to St. Marys and met with the team. He really wants to go there. Were hoping for an offer that will cut his tuition way down. If you get an offer from Cal you pretty much take it though so thats another possibility. I expect his Senior year next year to be special. Hes already the leading scorer on a top 5 nationally ranked club team.

Yeah, you have a chance to go to Cal or UCLA - you take it over SDSU! My son was accepted to all the UCs and was leaning heavily towards Cal at first and just fell in love with UCLA so that is where he ended up.

Yea my son loves UCLA. But he keeps telling me that he would prefer the non fraternity party side of Saint Marys. I think he feels like he could get really defocused at the 2 UC schools. He had issues in the past with priorities and studies.

Hes only a 3.7 right now and Cal overlooks the grades if they want a Rugby player. UCLA dosnt really so he would need a 4.0+ to make that school happen. He did dominate at the UCLA tournament and did a lot of good things in front of the coach who was scouting the Mustangs. So you never know. We will find out this summer as he was invited to there camp.

Thanks Punchy. He loved Moraga and Berkeley. He was just up there this past weekend. I think he really wants to live up there.

They are both great places. Berkeley is a different world. I think if I went there as a young adult it would've blown my mind. I know some people that went there and still live there and they are very much the new hippies for this generation where they used to be the hardcore smart kids. But I know a few that have gone on to great careers. Anyway, all of them are doing very well for themselves. St Mary's is out there in what would be a very nice suburban area. That tunnel really keeps city life out(I lived in walnut creek and concord for a bit). It's a great area but not a college kid party area.
