We know Rivers contract expires after this season and there have been several articles and interviews from TT and Rivers where they seem to be in a mutual admiration club for each other and both seem confident that Rivers will be a Charger in 2020, yet...no contract extension has been worked out.

Why do you think that is?

Could it be that Rivers might retire after this season and doesn't want a big deal made? Maybe he retires if we win the Superbowl? Maybe he wants to see what shakes out with Brady's weird contract situation to see what the market for QBs is? The team is playing hardball? The team wants to see how an older QB looks at the end of a long season? Or???

Last I saw from Rivers he wasn't too concerned and would be happy even if they worked it out after the season is over. He has always talked about wanting to win the SB and I think he believes the team has that potential for a few years. Just guessing though I think if the Chargers won it this year he might just decide to retire and go out on top.

Might not have wanted to get Gordon upset since it would show Gordon who is getting the most love from the team ...

At this point though I hope no one cares about Gordon being upset - he's acting like an idiot.

I will gladly take PR retiring after winning a Super Bowl. My guess is that they might do year-to-year contracts going forward, and there is no real rush to get one done. It might just be at what ever the current market is... and nothing long term, other than to reduce the cap hit, but he's going to get most of his pay with signing bonuses.

Rivers has said on multiple occasions that he wants to play at least one season in the stadium as well.

He's setting a good example for Gordon et al by honoring his current contract.

I don't see any problems. Rivers wants to be here and the chargers want him too. And I don't think he will be greedy. Probably will act like Pouncy did so chargers can sign Bosa and others. Rivers not like brees when it comes to $

Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

it isn't about greed..... if cousins and other lessor quality QB's are worth 30 plus million per year then Rivers is worth more than that......

big question is .... is spanos willing to fork out 30 million per year to anyone?.... that would be a huge raise one Rivers current contract......

Agreed. Rivers only made 16M this year. But I think he's made around a 200M so far so he really doesn't need the money.

Philip Rivers, QB -- $202.9 million
One thing to know: Rivers got one of the surprise monster contracts in recent memory, which will likely push his career earnings close to $220 million when all's said and done.

and yes, seems like he's well worth over the $30m, and.... have this funny feelin' he's gonna sign $50m/two years (and only play one more season).

Sorry Rich i had to merge your thread. We just have this Rivers Discussion going on already and your thread sort of fits the discussion here perfectly.

                          Cheers
