    Raiders Draft Room

Sources: #Raiders coach Jon Gruden and GM Mike Mayock sent their scouts home for the weekend and they are not expected to return by draft time. The belief is they don't know who to trust and wanted to clear the room.

And they have 3 first round drafts this year. Must have been heated disagreements with what Gruden is planning to do. I tell you, weird infighting can take place at this time, with information being leaked so that a team might miss out on a certain player some in the organization do not like.

When I started scouting in 2003, most teams allowed scouts and coaches to see the draft board. By 2012, most teams only allowed 3-4 people (HC/GM/Personnel Director/College Director) to have access to the board. This isn't that unusual.

Some of ESPN panels of experts said the rumor is that they will clean house on the scouts after the draft. People trying to trade info for a new job. Who knows.

Gruden had a ton of power in TB and he only was able to win with the team Dungy built. Now that he has to rebuild a team, it going to be that much harder.

Remember back in the greatest show on turf days for St. Louis. They had so many top draft picks, and such a good O, everyone thought they would be a dynasty because they would be able to draft and build a D overnight of quality picks. They drafted and none of them did anything. They held on for a couple of years and then started losing offensive players and the team collapsed.

Having a lot of draft capital gives the raiders the opportunity, but Gruden's track record is against him. He has to do a lot better job of finding and developing talent then he did in TB, and even Oakland the 1st time around.

Yep, Gruden ran Tampa Bay in the ground and Mark Davis giving him that power was a bad decision. Not sure why Gruden even hired Mayock. Probably to help him evaluate players but he is going to draft who he wants. Really stupid if he drafts a first round QB. Lock is not going to be better than Carr, who seems to be their most projected QB pick.

Gruden hired Mayock to be a "yes" man. Gruden want's someone who will be an information collector as a GM. Mayock has done that for years. He is used to looking at a ton of players and sifting through a lot of data. They probably have simlar ideas on players, so it helps everyone agree with Gruden if the top guys tend to agree.

But Gruden is the guy pulling the strings, and if his plan fails, they are all gone. The implosion should be spectacular.

Mayock hasn't been all that impressive over the years with his big board evaluations. He was high on Johnny Manziel, rating him higher than Derek Carr and Terry Bridgewater. Maybe Mayock wants to bring Johnny Highball back. But one of Mayock's biggest whiffs was this one:

Jermaine Gresham over Rob Gronkowski: The Patriots star had nearly as many touchdowns (11) in 2015 as Gresham had total receptions (18) in Arizona.

                      Ouch.

NFL Draft expert Mike Mayock gives opinions on every single player. Occasionally, those opinions turn out differently than he expected at the time. Here are Mayock's biggest misses since 2009.

Manziel's problem wasn't his talent as it was his head. He was immature and cared more about money and partying. He said all the right things even though he was following everyone. That has failed many talented high draft picks. Looking at JaMarcus and Leaf for starters.
Talent alone that got you thru college don't fly in the NFL. Mayock isnt bad and is better than the likes of Kiper and McShay.
