I believe its just one part of the total picture. Who does best at different athletic tests. Thats all. And better athletes generally do better at sports. But guys that are competitive and smart find things that help them beat the guy in front of them. So it's just one thing to look at.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    The Wasted Decade is done.

the temptation is to hope he's a Donnie Edwards 2.0 for our D.... the reality is that he's a serious injury concern.

not sure why our FO goes out and gets an injury risk (Tranquill) to spell our already injury risk (Denzel) at the same position (MIKE) ??

personally was hoping for Coney and wanted someone to spell Denzel that would help take the modern out of the football.... someone who can play/stop the run.

(and not be a liability in coverage.... similar to Perryman).

if we're gonna go out and draft known injury risks, woulda much preferred dropping some capital on Bryce Love.

will also add that am a believer that injuries are rarely if ever a matter of dumb luck, and much more oft the consequence of one's mindset, i.e. someone that doesn't play/stay within himself, and/or plays beyond his abilities/skill set, and hence leaving him susceptible to injury.

That's a bad generalization. It's equal part luck, genetics, and hard work. The NFL is the most brutal sport in the world and physics unfortunately is not on the side of the players. That's why people all agree that you can only minimize injuries and not prevent it all together if you play in the NFL. But if you were to base this solely on mindset, then I suppose Tranquill fits that mold.

As for someone who can play stop the run, there's a reason guys like Wilson fell even further in the draft while guys that can cover like White and Bush were picked up earlier.

don't recall Mack Wilson being known for his run stopping abilities, and more so for a guy that got caught up in (the) trash.

and re: the mindset, and to abstain from getting too woo woo here.... not sure where you're coming up w/your prerogative, and.... not swayed, and do believe that mindset is the biggest factor in a player's susceptibility to injury.

Both Manti Teo and Chris Watt did not have an injury history in college. Did they suddenly forget that mindset when they got to the NFL? Did Verrett not have the right mindset when he blew out his achilles heel last year doing a simple conditioning test?

On the opposite spectrum, Tranquill now has a detailed recovery system in place to fight injuries. Everything from nutrition, hydration, sleep, and proper exercise. Does that mean that he will never get injured again?

There's no way to prevent injuries in the NFL. Even Chip Kelly with his sport science realized that fact.

don't recall saying anything re: that injuries are preventable, albeit obviously some players are more injury prone/concerns than others, and yes.... there are other factors besides a player's mindset.

I could find a way to live on $3.2 mil over 4 years. It would be tough, cramp my lifestyle, and have to be a budget hawk but I'd sacrifice for the greater good.
