Reference - Updated trade value chart

Here is the value chart created in 2012, along with the old Jimmy Johnson chart. Supposedly, the newer chart includes factors such as the newer CBA. There's also a value calculator on the site.

Here are the values for the draft value chart in Post II on this subject, published on November 19th, 2012, along with the Jimmy Johnson/NFL values: Here are the values for the draft value chart in Post I on this subject, published on November 13th, 2012: Pk,FP Val,JJ Val 1,34.6,3000 2,30.2,2600 3,27.6,2200 4,25.8,1800

Thanks for posting that. I'd planned on searching for it today. I know it's just a guide, but it's fun to check it when trades happen.

I wonder how much statistical analysis went into that or if it's just something somebody made up. It's a nice concept, I just don't trust it's implementation, especially when somebody says you have to throw in your 7th for the points to balace out.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

I don't think NFL teams do use it that much. The JJ chart, yes, the Cowboys used if, and probably still do. But the part that is important in terms of understanding valuing trades in the NFL, the picks at the top are worth a huge amount more then the picks later on.

Forget the actual value for the top pick in the link. Lets assume that his value is about 36 (not 34.6, because that is inconvenient). I picked 36 because it is divisible by 4 and 9. So, the top pick is sorta worth 36, you drop in value by half between picks 13 and 14. So, then we drop to a value of 9 by pick 56. Pick 113 gets you down to a value of 4.5 (half of a late 2nd). Half again by 161 (5th round). Not too long after that the value has dropped to nothing relative to the top pick.

So, all you really need to know is that even on this new scale, the top picks are worth a ton, and lower picks are worth a whole lot less. And since teams only have discrete picks to trade, it becomes a whole lot more general, and that is even before the fact that picks for future drafts have no basis, since you have no idea how they will be valued, since the actual value is set on the order, and that is some future event.
