San Diego Chargers inside linebacker Jonas Mouton will miss the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Mouton injured his knee on Thursday, the first day of Chargers training camp. Mouton, a second-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, spent his rookie season on injured reserve and could be doing the same this season.

Manti Te'o was expected to compete with Mouton for a starting spot at middle linebacker. Now, the path seems to be clear for Te'o to get more reps and ultimately be on the field as a starter for the Chargers in Week 1.

Earlier this offseason, the Chargers claimed D.J. Smith off waivers from the Green Bay Packers, which should help provide some depth and ease the loss of Mouton a bit.

Another injury prone high draft pick by us. Hope he recovers.

Hard to care about a backup ILB when we have our starters set.

I wonder how long it's going to take for teams to start requiring players to use dual knee braces during TC.

I'm not comfortable enough with Butler's durability to think we don't need a backup inside linebacker. That being said, I don't know that Mouton really is much of a backup.

            I heard he's the word. Let's hope he doesn't drop a turd.

DJ Smith can be a great backup from what I've read, provided he's healthy. I figured he was going to start on the PUP list so he's a nice addition to the LB corps. Bird and Gachkar do probably make the team as ST Aces. Maybe we keep a 5th OLB if he can play ST's.

Was Mouton ever "in" for the year? He's making Larry English look like Lou Gehrig.

Didnt Lou have a disease named after him?

He had a handful of snaps on defense.
